TeenDad2: okay, so like, a month ago, when I came to pick Bo up from my brother’s place he told me about the fire

TeenDad2: And I know you’ve been looking for a new place and everything, but you kind of never talk about it, so I figured that it was a touchy subject and I didn’t want to bother you

TeenDad2: buuuut I heard from Bo that your brother said that you guys were staying with my brother and Aaron’s brother

TeenDad2: I know that it’s probably none of my business or anything, but is there something going on with you and Caleb?

TeenDad2: I forgot all about it until the other day when Bo mentioned you were still living there

TeenDad2: but you guys would be really great together

TeenDad2: if you want, I can totally hook you up. My brother and Caleb are best friends, and I know he’d wingman for you if I asked him to.

TeenDad2: Unless you’re already together?

TeenDad2: I think you guys would be so good for each other

Jayne set his phone down and rolled over so he could look at Caleb. Caleb didn’t stir. Jayne inched closer, thinking that if the mattress dipped, Caleb might come to, but he had no such luck. A stone would have been more responsive.

Jayne scrunched his nose and went for it anyway. “Hey, Caleb.”

Nothing.

“Hey, Caleb?”

Nothing.

Jayne was momentarily concerned that Caleb’s heart had given up the ghost after their sexual aerobics. Cautiously, he reached out and poked Caleb between the shoulder blades.

Caleb muttered something incoherent.

Not dead. That was good.

Jayne could work with that.

“Caleb?” Jayne asked again. “Is there something going on between us?”

The answer he received—if he could call it an answer—was another string of incoherent noises. Caleb pushed his face into the pillows like if he tried hard enough, the mattress might take pity on him and suck him inside, where he’d be safe from Jayne and his pokey fingers.

“I thought so.” Jayne rolled over and picked up his phone.

GlitterDoctor: Nah, I don’t need any help. But thank you for the offer.

TeenDad2: what?

TeenDad2: I didn’t mean to insult you or anything :( I just think you and Caleb would be really cute together.

Jayne narrowed his eyes and reread his last response, trying to figure out what had come across as hostile. When he discovered nothing, he took to wondering about how TD was interpreting the conversation. The idea of Jayne and Caleb together must have resonated with him for Jayne’s refusal to rattle him so much.

In a bid to lighten the mood and tease TD in the process, Jayne attempted to shift the subject.

GlitterDoctor: What about Caleb? Can he wingman for me?

TeenDad2: ???

GlitterDoctor: Caleb, you know, the guy you were just talking to me about?

GlitterDoctor: Do you think he’d be a good wingman?
