He laughs and my chest aches. It aches with how much I care for him. How thoughtful he is.

“Thank you for coming. I know it couldn’t have been easy…” My voice is soft. He doesn’t joke about me saying “thank you.” He reaches down and grabs my pinky with his before he catches my eye. The gold flecks take the breath out of my lungs.

This man.

“You’re worth it,” he says before pressing a soft, sweet kiss to our interlocked pinkies.

“Well, you’ll never believe what’s on the agenda for today,” I say, raising my eyebrows. Holland looks at me a little unsure.

“I’m not even going to attempt to guess. I never know with you,” he says in a fake exasperated tone, but his plastered smile gives him away.

“Want to try baking peanut butter scones?”
