“If they’re there, it won’t be easy. You have to have permission to be on those peaks, meaning they have permission from my mother.” The hatred I havefor the woman fills my voice, and each person in the room feels it. “Luckily, because I share her blood, I can go without her permission.”

“You’ll need us with you, brother,” Heat points out. “Pyro, you can’t go alone. You of all people know that.”

Oh, I know it. If I go alone, my mother is sure to trap me there. It’s one of the reasons I’m fucking glad Carina ended up giving up going there for her article. It’s not something I’d want to keep her from doing, but I also really don’t want her there without me. If I had it my way, she’d never go there cause I sure as fuck don’t want to go anywhere near Shiverborn.

“We go to find them, and we do it right, bring Kinley back where she belongs,” I tell Heat and look around the rest of the table. “I suggest Inferno and Clay come with me, with three others who could ride. We’d get there faster. Get in and out, hopefully without detection.”

“I’ll be one of the riders,” Brimstone declares.

“I’ll also be going,” Heat announces.

“Same here,” Fire states, pounding a fist on the table.

“Y’all need more men with you,” Shooter pipes up. “Y’all shouldn’t go without more men. What happens if those assholes have more manpower or the backing and protection of witches?”

“I don’t blame Shooter for his concerns. It’s a real thing for us to think about.

“Well, you might want to hold off on going to Shiverborn for right now,” Boot says, eyes on his computer.

“Why?” Brimstone demands.

Boot’s eyes come to me, then look to Inferno, then back to me. “There’s someone at the gates looking for her.”

“What?” Inferno and I say at the same time.

I get up out of my seat, already heading for the door. No one should be here. No one should know where she is.

“I don’t know who it is, but they’re telling the prospect they’re here for Carina,” Boot says, pulling up the feed to the cameras set up at the gates.

Immediately, I recognize the dragon within the man. Without having to see him in person, I can tell exactly what he is. My own dragon doesn’t sit well with me at the knowledge that another dragon is here to see our mate.

“The dragon mark,” Inferno growls.

“Don’t let him on the property,” I tell Boot and leave the room, knowing my brothers are following me.

I don’t give a damn who this fucker is. He’s not getting anywhere near Carina.

“What’s going on?” my mate asks from the bar where she’s sitting with Evelin and Herja, drinking coffee, looking like she just got out of bed.

I like the sight of her in one of my hoodies and leggings. I don’t need the hoodies, but I wear them to fit in around the area. The last thing I need is for her to know another dragon is here for her. She could very well leave me for them.

“Stay in here and don’t try to follow,” I order without stopping my pursuit of the doors.

“What the hell?” I hear Carina snap and call out my name, but I’m on a fucking mission to get rid of the asshole who showed here.

No one is going to take Carina from me. They’ll be in for the fight of their lives if they so much as try.

CARINA

“Do as he says, Carina,”Herja murmurs quietly as the doors shut behind the rest of the guys following Pyro and my brother.

“What is going on?” I mutter more to myself than the other two women.

Last night had been perfect. I’d like going to sleep in Pyro’s arms. I didn’t like waking alone. I hoped to wake up still being curled up with Pyro. It’s what I wanted, but he wasn’t there. So, I’d gotten dressed and decided to go in search of coffee.

It’s where I found Evelin and her mother sitting at the bar, also enjoying coffee. Evelin helped me find what I’m looking for, and I joined them at the bar.
