“Check,” Bryce responded. “Sawyer?”
“Ready for action,” Sawyer said.
“Let’s get the show on the road,” Colt chimed in.
Grant turned to Faith and put his hands on her shoulders. She’d looked pale all morning, and he couldn’t stand to see her so shaky.
“You’re a survivor. You’re going to get through this,” he said. “Now you say it.”
“I’m a survivor. I’m going to get through this,” Faith said.
“I love you, Faith. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“I love you too. And I trust you.”
“Aww, that’s sweet,” Sawyer said. “Can we go now?”
Faith reddened.
“Jackass,” Grant said.
“Heard that.”
* * *
Grant drovein a zig-zag across the city, attempting to throw anyone off their trail in case they were being followed.
“The announcement went live two hours ago,” Colt said. “The press is already here.”
“Bryce, you in position?” Grant asked.
“Roger,” Bryce said.
“I’m in front of the Flux building,” Rusty said. “Colt, you’ll be escorting the CEO just in case there is an attempt at his life too. Grant, what’s your ETA?”
“Ten minutes,” Grant said, turning.
“How is your other half holding up?” Rusty asked.
“Ready,” Faith said. “Am I allowed to talk into this thing?”
Grant nodded. “You’ve got the lead role in this.”
“If I get killed, I’m leaving you all a terrible Yelp review,” Faith said.
Rusty laughed. “You sound in high spirits. That’s good for the mission.”
“They reconciled,” Bryce said. “Which means you owe me twenty bucks.”
“You owe me fifteen,” Colt said. “Pay up when this is over, Rusty.”
“You guys placed a bet on us?” Grant asked. He glanced at Faith. She covered her mouth as she laughed. “I’m shocked and appalled by your unprofessional behavior, gentlemen.”
“Is that a formal complaint?” Rusty said.
“I’m complaining that you bet against me,” Grant said. “No one can stay mad at me for too long.” He flashed Faith a big smile.
“I’m glad everyone was entertained at our expense. I should get a discount,” Faith said.
