“You think this is destiny?” Grant asked. His body tingled. He wanted her to say yes. He wanted her to say she forgave him. That she still loved him. He still loved her deeply. If nothing else in the world was true, that much was.

Faith tossed her hair over her shoulder. “Maybe it’s destiny that brought us back together. Maybe it’s cause and effect.”

Faith flushed again as she dropped her eyes back down to stare at her hands. She kneaded her palms. “Me too,” she said. “I mean, I’ve dated other people. And got serious with some. But none of them…” She looked at him. “Were you.”

“I’m sorry for what I did,” Grant said. “I mean it.”

Faith slid across the couch next to him, her leg touching his. “Thanks for helping me understand why you did what you did. Doesn’t mean I like it, but it’s progress.” She patted his hand and he caught her fingers. Grant wrapped his fingers around hers and squeezed. Faith didn’t pull away.

“What do we do now?” Grant asked.

Faith kissed him.
