‘So you drugged him, somehow strapped his big ass.’ Now that’s just rude. ‘To a chair and what? Were you planning on giving him a strongly worded lecture? Why not kill him?’
Kate shrugs, ‘I don’t believe in killing people like that quickly.’
‘No, you just live with them instead.’ The redhead — Elizabeth — nods to the two dead bodies.
‘I was working on that.’
‘Sure looks like it,’ Elizabeth scoffs.
‘Oh like you’re all so perfect walking around with the likes of him, a Skull. My brother might have been an asshole but he wasn’t anywhere near as bad as them.’ I presume she's talking about me. ‘He said fucked up shit but he never acted on it. Not like other people up there do.’
Some of the girls grumble, fed up with Kate’s rambling but Isla, Fauna and I stay. I notice Elizabeth does too, despite her becoming one with the shadows.
‘Do you think I want to live down here in the dark? That I like the smell and damp. I fucking hate it but what other option do I have? Kill these two and have no protection. Make it so my friends and I are easy pickings for whatever is up there.’ Face red and chest heaving, she points at the empty tunnel behind her. ‘Did it not occur to any of you that there are other people here with us but they are too scared to come out. They don’t have it in them to face monsters like I have. I kept them alive the only way I knew how, so don’t fucking judge me for how I did it.’
This world is fucked up.
‘So what’s your plan now then?’ Isla asks.
Kate’s shoulders drop, ‘I don’t know.’
Isla looks at me.
‘I’ll send some of the guys. You can make a plan with them.’
‘No, no.’ Kate begins to shake her head, stepping back.
‘Urghhh,’ pink hair appears in my peripheral, along with two expressive arms waving her point. ‘You’re a pretty fucking stupidscientist. How can you look at us — a group of fucking women — and still think we are the ones being used and manipulated by their stupid little group. We came here and killed your guys, not The Skulls, us. We are in charge of what happens to us.’
‘You’re not the only one that used a persona to scare off the rest of the world,’ Elizabeth adds from the shadows and something in her tone has a creepy ass shiver running down my spine.
Kate, wide-mouthed and speechless, looks between the formidable group of women before her. Again looking down to Isla’s pregnant bump, really noticing the truth of the situation. Then she nods.
‘I’ll get you everything you need for the birth.’
Chapter forty-six
Isla
‘You’re in so much fucking trouble.’
‘I know, baby.’ Liam nibbles kisses down my neck as I moan.
‘You have a lot of making up to do.’
‘I’ll spend the rest of my days on my knees for you, worshipping you like the queen you are.’
God, he has a way with words that has my heart swelling with love. This man drives me crazy in more ways than one, and I can't seem to stay mad at him no matter what.
‘Get on the bed. Now.’ I order.
He complies immediately letting me go. The heat from his touch doesn’t leave me. It lingers on my skin, fuelling my need for more.
Liam lies on our bed, grinning up at me as I stalk towards him. His hand goes to the bulge in his jeans, gripping his hardness through the fabric.
‘I’m in charge tonight.’
‘Yes, Queen.’ He groans.
