She nodded, prepared to drop the line of questioning, but I had my own question.

“Why did you agree? I was fully prepared for you to tell me to go fuck myself. But instead, you asked if I was serious after the most adorable fit of laughter.”Yo, did I just call her adorable?

“Well, I wasn’t expecting that, especially not from you.”

The way she said “from you” made me want to ask what she meant, but I had to focus on the question I’d asked first.

She pursed her lips, thinking about her answer before she finally spoke. “Would it shock you if I said I’m attracted to you as well?”

I chuckled. “Nah it wouldn’t, but again, you’re the cautious type. The overthinker, so why did you tell me yes that day in my office without going home to overthink it first?”

She shook her head, amusement living in her features. “Considering I told you yes and still went home and overthought it, that shouldn’t matter. But honestly, I guess I said yes because I was reeling from a breakup, from being told by my ex I was too predictable. So saying yes to you made me less predictable.”

I smiled. I was aware of this ex. I had done my homework on her, so I knew everything I needed to know beforehand. “Are you still in contact with him?”

“Nope. When we were done, we were done. There was nothing else to consider.”

Chapter 3

Amaris

When we made it back to the room, I was good, tipsy, hot and freaking bothered—and he knew it. Once inside, he immediately went over to the bed, throwing the T-shirt he’d worn here into the chair in the corner of the room. Then he leaned against the side of the washroom doorway, eyes locked on me.

“I nee—” I started, but he held his middle and index fingers up to shush me.

“Don’t talk. Take it all off.”

Confusion overtook me, but I did as I was told. Seconds later, my clothes were pooled at my feet. I looked at him for some reason, waiting for my next direction.

His expression was dark and his face was blank.

“What’s your favorite fruit?” he then asked, catching me completely off guard.

“Apples.”

“Good girl. That’s your safe word, no matter what we’re doing this weekend. If you need to say that shit, then say it, and I’ll stop immediately. I promise.”

I nodded.

“This only works if you trust me. Do you trust me, Amaris?”

I nodded.

“Use your words.”

I blinked a few times, grounding myself, then speaking, “Yes, I trust you.”

“Good girl.” He pushed off the doorway standing up straight.

I closed my eyes. I was so nervous under his gaze.

“Nah, don’t close your eyes. Open those motherfuckers up for me right now.” He seemed almost frustrated at the mere thought of me not seeing him.

My eyes snapped open, my breath caught halfway in my chest.

“Are you still with me? I need you to be with me right now.” His voice was heavy.

I nodded. “I’m here.”
