“I did.”

“Tay, when did you speak to Ivory after the reception desk encounter?”

“That night, counselor.”

“And did she mention this walk?”

“She did not,” Tay confirms.

“Anything you would like to say for yourself, Ivory?”

“Yeah, Ives. Have you seen him anymore?” Tay is enjoying this way too much.

I’m nervous to tell them about Preston. It feels like I’m jinxing it, especially after the call with my dad. At the same time, these two are my best friends. If there’s anyone to talk to about a guy, it’s them.

“He took me snorkeling a few days after the walk and we’ve been hanging out.”

“Snorkeling?”

“Is that what we’re calling it these days?” Tay laughs at her own joke.

“No, nasty. Actual snorkeling.”

“I didn’t think you knew how to snorkel.” Gabby sounds skeptical.

“I didn’t.” Silence meets my response. “He taught me.”

“He taught you,” Gabby deadpans.

“Oooh la la,” Tay chimes in.

“You’re an idiot, Tay.”

“This is such a fun meet-cute. Hey, maybe you can write it into a script or something.”

“I am not writing about this. I am coming back and resurrecting my project.”

“If you say so,” Tay grumbles.

Gabby raises her voice to get our attention. “Focus, people. He taught you how to snorkel?”

“Yep, it was awesome.”

“Who is this guy? What’s his name? I want to look him up.”

This is why I didn’t want to tell them. Taylor will deep dive into his socials, and Gabby will certainly caution me because of his profession.

“His name is Preston.”

“Damn, that’s hot. Is he hot?”

I shake my head at Tay’s one-track mind. “He’s attractive.”

“Oh, he’s definitely hot. You hear that, Gabby?” Tay is such an instigator.

“I hear. She’s still playing it cool, but he’s hot for sure. Otherwise she wouldn’t be so hesitant. What does he do? Have you talked about real life at all? Do you know anything about him? He could be a serial killer.”

“Damn, fifty questions.”
