Apparently, I was wrong. It did, in fact, mean that other resorts and hotels are also closing. There are no options. At least, none that I could find.

My stomach rumbling tells me I skipped lunch. Extending my arms to stretch my back and neck, I debate a quick yoga session when an alert sounds from my cellphone.

URGENT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR FLIGHT

Opening it, I see the subject again and just below that, it reads:

We’re sorry to inform you that your flight 7516 from Belize City to Los Angeles, California has been canceled.

Please contact the airline for more information.

Fuck. Time to call in reinforcements.

The phone rings twice before Gabby answers. “Hey, chica.”

“Hey, hold on, I’m going to add Tay.” Between the three of us we can figure this out.

“K.”

The phone rings once before Tay picks up. “I’m so sorry, Ivory. I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m glad you called,” she says as soon as the line connects.

“What the fuck did you do? Is this a friendship mediation right now?”

“Gabby?”

“Yeah, Gabby is on. No, this isn’t a friendship mediation.”

“What happened?”

Sighing, Taylor responds. “Ivory and I were talking about her flight being canceled and I may have assumed she was a diva at the reception desk with witnesses. And unintentionally implied that I didn’t think she could handle her own business.”

“Well, joke’s on me, because I apparently can’t handle my own business.” A self-deprecating huff leaves me.

“Honey, no. Yes, you can.” Tay tries to comfort me.

“No, I can’t because the resort is closing early and now my flight has been canceled. I have been searching for a place to stay and can't find one.” The familiar panic from the first time my flight was canceled seeps in.

“Alright,” Gabby says, cutting in. “Let’s take this one thing ata time.” The methodical lawyer part of Gabby’s brain is on full display now. “First, your flight was canceled?”

“Yes,” I answer.

“So, you’re currently still in Belize and don’t have a flight home?”

“Yep,” I respond, popping the P.

“I just saw that alert. I’ll get on the phone with the airline about the next scheduled flight out,” Tay pipes up.

“Okay, and how long is your reservation at the resort?” Gabby questions.

“They called this morning saying that they have to shut down now. I’m supposed to have at least three days left but now I only have two. Plus, now I have an indeterminate amount of time before a new flight instead of the week gap I had before.”

“TWO?!” Gabby and Tay shout at the same time.

“Well, more like one and a half now because they only gave me today and tomorrow. I have to evacuate the premises the day after tomorrow at the latest.”

“Fuck,” Tay spits.

“Shit.” Gabby sighs.
