“Gabrielle said that too.”
“She’s good stuff.” Miller nods, talking about Gabrielle.
Picking up my phone, I plan to text Ivory to make sure she is free, but find a text from her already.
IVORY:
Just saw the news. YAY! Call me whenever.
Dialing her number, I put the phone on speaker and wait for her to answer.
“How does it feel to be Nashville’s newest second baseman?”
“Don’t forget about the catcher!” Miller says from beside me on the couch.
“Hey, Mills! I’m so happy you’re coming too. All of us will be together.”
“Hey, Hollywood. How is your day?”
“It’s great! My boyfriend is officially coming to my new home city. I can’t wait to see you. When will you be here? Where will you stay?” Ivory is running a mile a minute. Her enthusiasm makes me laugh but also roots itself deep into my chest.Thisis why I made the deal. This is worth everything I’ve potentially given up.
“I can’t wait to see you either. It’ll be a while before I amthere. Nashville is on a string of road trips. We fly out tomorrow to meet the team.”
“That’s crazy they just throw you in like that.”
“It’s baseball. Always moving. Find us a house yet, Ivey?”
“Us?” I send an eyebrow up in Miller’s direction.
“Haha. Actually I might have.”
“Really?”
“Yep! A house two doors down from Gabby just went up for sale. How fun would that be for us to be practically neighbors?”
“That would be pretty awesome.”
“I feel bad for the house in the middle,” Miller says out of the side of his mouth.
“I heard that!”
“When will you know about the house?”
“I’m going to tour it with my agent in half an hour. If I like it, I’ll put in an offer.” Before I can say anything, Ivory shrieks. “Oh my god, I can’t believe I didn’t start with this. I have an investor!”
“Already?” I say at the same time Miller says, “You do?”
“Yes! Actually more like a silent partner. I don’t know who it is. It went through a third party. They want to remain anonymous for now. They want no part in the decisions. Everything is still mine to do with what I want but they offered a major investment. P, this funding is huge! It takes such a weight off. I can’t believe it’s happening.”
“Believe it, Hollywood. All your dreams are about to come true.”
“Oh shoot, the agent is here. I have to run. I love you! I can’t wait to see you.”
“I love you too. Let me know how it goes.” Ivory blows a kiss through the phone then hangs up.
“You bought her a company didn’t you.” Miller turns to me.
“I invested. There is a difference.”
