“That’s nice of you.” She smiled and looked away.

The silence between us must’ve gotten the best of her because she ran her hand over her shirt as if she was knocking hair off that wasn’t there. I was too busy admiring her to careabout the silence. Every encounter with her showed me how beautiful she was. It was like she was getting finer and finer.

The last time I saw her, she had a big ass rock on her fingers. Today, her finger was bare. I know that didn’t mean shit. She probably forgot to put it on. I couldn’t be her nigga and she walked out the house looking this good and forgot to put my ring on her finger.

“Not sure if you got the email, but I will be by for the twins’ appointment on Friday.”

“This Friday?”

“Yes, do we need to reschedule?”

“Nah, they will be with me at my place.”

“So, where I’ve been meeting them at is not your place?”

“It’s the family home that we share, but I have my own space. We can go back to the family house for the appointment if you’re not comfortable, or if your husband is uncomfortable with you being at another man’s house.” I threw in there.

“Tuh, what makes you think I’m married?” She looked at me with an attitude.

I didn’t want her to know that I had been watching her during the last few appointments. It was hard not to.

“You always have a big ass rock on your finger when you come to the appointments.”

Her smile faded as she raised her left hand and looked at the empty spot that used to carry the diamond. Yeah, that nigga had fucked up. Now I regretted that I noticed.

“Well, it’s complicated. Anyways, your place is fine. You just need to email me the address so I can add it to their paperwork.”

I pulled my phone out, went straight to her email, and sent my address.

“Done! I’ll see you on Friday. Do I need anything for them?”

“No, we’re doing something new, so I’ll bring everything I need.”

“Aight,” I looked her up and down one more time. “That cut looks good as fuck on you too. Have a great night, Ms. Cole.”

“You too, Mr. Grant.”

As she walked away, I stood there frozen, watching her. Her whole aura exuded that she knew who she was and what she was worth. I wanted to pry when she told me her marriage was complicated. Like what kind of nigga would let an educated, beautiful black woman like her feel that what she had was complicated? It was my phone that brought me out of my daydream, and I noticed she had disappeared.

“My bad, I’m on the way.”

“Now it doesn’t take that long to get pizza. What are you doing?”

“Lonni, I’m coming. I ran into Ms. Cole. I let her know that you were going out of town and she would have to see the twins at my place.”

“Oh, I forgot to email her. Okay, well, bring your ass on. They are hungry.”

“I’m coming,” I said, looking back, hoping to see her pass by before I hung up.

“Dream, please clean that juice up off the counter with your napkin please,” I told him as I wiped Reign’s mouth with a wipe.

Lonni told me I was hard on Dream. I don’t think I was, I just knew deep down how hard the world was going to be on him, and I wanted him to be able to maintain. I could say the samefor how she was with Reign. We both had our reasons, and I was okay with it.

“There.” He wiped the spot.
