Lana picks up in a few rings.
“Hello, Goldcrest, Lana speaking.”
“Lana, it’s Jay. I’m with Owen, and Falcon.”
“Did you find her?” Lana asks, sounding worried.
“We’re chasing that detective’s car right now. She’s a little way ahead of us, but we can still see them. It looks like they’re headed toward Silver Valley. Do you know any reason why Warren might take her there?”
“Silver Valley,” Lana muses. “Why does that sound familiar?”
“It’s where we’re from,” I offer. “Pack Falcone.”
“Hm. That’s not it.”
“Owen thought you could call the Alpha Alliance and check if they know where he might take her?”
“I can do that. You want to hang on the line while I do?”
“Yeah, sure.”
It’s not like there’s anything else we can do.
We’re stuck in a car, chasing another car.
With Silver Valley being the closest town, we’re in for a long road trip.
Lana puts me on hold, and I keep watching that car in the distance.
They must be driving at an insane speed to stay so far ahead.
We’re doing the max that Owen’s S.U.V. can handle and it’s not good enough.
I’m worried about what happens when we need to slow down.
We could lose them in the traffic when we hit that section of freeway that splits off into roads that lead to Silver City, Silver Lake, and the main roads to Cressidan City.
“They could be headed to Silver City, or Silver Lake,” I suggest.
Owen frowns. “It’s possible. There’s nothing in Silver Lake. I mean, that’s a Beta town, through and through. It doesn’t seem likely that he would go there.”
“Doesn’t it also seem unlikely that he would kidnap a Beta?” I ask.
“We rescued her from Platinum Hills,” Falcon says, shrugging when I look at him. “That could be where he’s going.”
“You think he’s taking her back to Hamilton’s place?” I ask.
Falcon shrugs again. “We don’t know why he’s doing this.”
Lana clears her throat, and I put my concentration back on the phone.
“Lana. Did you find anything out?”
“I found out the alliance have been digging into Corvina’s past. He had known associations with Ivan Hamilton, and Steve Barrister, as well as a whole network of the big players in Platinum Hills.”
“Steve Barrister?” My blood runs cold. “The man who’s claiming to be Robin’s father?”
“Yeah. The DNA test was a positive, so he is her bio dad, but he’s also very likely to be engaging in illegal activities. The kind of thing that helps Alpha creeps with their constant supply of paid-for Omegas.” Lana sounds disgusted.
