I’m on my own.

That doesn’t mean I don’t have a way out.

It just means I need to be smart about my choices.

For now, that means I need to be quiet.

He warned me not to cause trouble, so I won’t.

I look out of the window for a while, but the speed we’re going makes everything go by too quickly. It makes me nauseous. I fold my arms and look down at the sweater Harper gave me to wear. It’s got dirt and grease on it from that ladder and the damn lever.

I can’t help but worry about Harper and Shayne.

They were drugged by that food. Harper passed out, and Shayne did the same when he went to check on our Omega. I don’t know what sedatives do to people, or how much of whatever drug was used was in that food. I hope they’re not hurt.

If anything happens to them, it’s because of me.

Warren made that obvious.

He would have killed them to get to me.

I don’t fully understand why, and I’m not sure I want to know.

All I do know is if I’m a danger to my mates, then it’s better if I’m not in their lives.

They don’t deserve to be dragged into this mess, whatever it is.

Chapter One Hundred-Thirty-Six

Jay

It’s fucking ironic that we came all the way from Silver Valley to Cressidan City to meet Robin, and now she’s being driven back that way by a cop who’s currently possessed by a crazy person.

“Where could he be taking her?” I ask, thinking aloud and inviting Owen and Falcon to share their thoughts at the same time.

Owen sighs. “Warren Corvina has associates, clinics and properties all over the fucking place. He has multiple places he could hit in Silver Valley, which is the next logical stop on this road, but we don’t know if he’s going to drive through that town or if it’s his destination.”

“It’s where we used to live,” Falcon comments flatly from the backseat.

“Huh,” Owen mutters. “It’s a hell of a drive, at a normal speed, I mean.”

“We’ll have to slow down pretty soon. There’s a stretch coming up that’s usually grid-locked.”

“I almost had her,” Falcon mutters.

“You did good,” I tell him. “And we haven’t lost them.”

I hope we haven’t lost Falcon again, either.

It feels like we just got him back to himself.

He’s already disconnecting because our mate was kidnapped.

It’s probably shock, and he’ll be fine once we find her, but I don’t like it.

“You know what, call the academy,” Owen tells me. “Ask Lana about Silver Valley. She can check if the Alpha Alliance have any ideas on why he might take her there, or where they might go.”

I get my phone out of my pocket and make the call.
