It might be too early to call it, but I kind of want to, which is probably why a slightly crazy idea pops into my head and refuses to go away.
Time ticks away as we walk around, and I know I’m going to have to go back to work soon.
Katie might come looking for me if I’m not back in the next few minutes.
I bite on my lip as we stop near the start of the path.
“I’m guessing your lunchbreak is over?” he asks quietly.
“Uh, yeah. I need to get back, but …” I hesitate for a few seconds, and he watches me patiently.
It feels like I’m going against the rules, and I know that’s why Lana doesn’t like him, because he broke her rules, but I don’t want him to have to leave, and he looks so tired …
“It’s okay,” he starts, lifting my hand slightly and stroking it in his. “I’ll see you tomorrow, and you’ll get to meet Shayne tonight.”
“You need to sleep,” I tell him, as my free hand pulls my suite key out of my pocket.
I take his hand and turn it, placing the key in his palm.
He stares at it and then looks up at me.
“You don’t …” he starts, shaking his head as he trails off.
“I know what I’m doing,” I assure him. “This is my choice, and Lana will have to accept it.”
His fingers close around the key, while he gazes back at me silently.
I lean in to hug him, letting go of his hand.
His arms wrap around me as I rest my head on his shoulder.
The warmth of his embrace makes me want to wish the rest of the world into oblivion.
Reluctance fills me as I let go and take a step away from the source of my temptation.
“I’ll walk you inside,” I murmur. “My suite is on the second floor. It’s the middle door in the hallway.”
He looks at the key. “Room 203.”
Right.The number’s on the key.
Most people would probably use that to identify the room.
“Yeah,” I confirm.
“You’re sure about this?” he asks, frowning.
I think for a second, wondering if I should be setting boundaries since I’m basically inviting him to stay with me in my room. No doubts enter my mind, and I give him a smile.
“We’re going to be mated. I think it’s okay if we share a living space.”
He smiles back, and I motion toward the building.
“I should go before Katie comes looking for me.”
“Right,” he murmurs, taking my hand in his again.
We walk back into the building, and he kisses me briefly when I stop outside the kitchen doors.
