“Wow,” he murmurs. “You must have been hungry.”
“I just like tomato soup,” I confess. “It’s been a while since I had it.”
He waves to Pris. “Well, then, let’s get you some more.”
Chapter Seventy-Five
Falcon
The food is even better than yesterday, and it seems like Pris is the one to thank for the improvement. Robin eats with gusto, clearly happy to be eating one of her favorite foods.
Watching her is far more satisfying than filling my stomach.
I eat my midday breakfast absently, barely noticing when the meat is all gone from my plate.
I was hungry, sure, but seeing Robin enjoy a simple pleasure is everything.
I want more of this, every day.
I’d do anything to make it happen.
If I need to stay awake for a week and end up wandering this academy like a slack-jawed zombie, I will, though I seriously hope it doesn’t come to that.
I doubt Lana would be pleased if I was barely functioning while I’m inside the academy walls.
She’d probably have Owen lock me up in the basement as a liability.
I don’t want to be inside the building that badly.
Hanging around outside got me time with Robin.
It’ll take me days to dig this trench, a week if I really stretch it out.
I’d better start slowing down.
A week sounds about right.
Hopefully by then Lana will be accepting enough of me and my pack to allow us to stay here until Robin’s ready to leave.
“That was so good,” Robin murmurs as she puts her spoon down.
“It was,” I agree, as I put my fork down on my plate.
“I’d like to get some time outside before I have to go back to work.”
I push my chair back and stand up, holding out my hand for her.
“Then let’s go for a walk.”
Chapter Seventy-Six
Robin
Being out in the gardens with Falcon is so much better than being out here alone. It doesn’t seem to matter if we talk or not, the silence between our conversations is comfortable.
Ever since I met him, I’ve felt safe in his company.
The time we’ve spent together hasn’t changed that.
