She looks over her shoulder, “Malakai is still set up as Bast’s next of kin, the hospital called. What happened?”

I blink to clear the tears, “I don’t know. I came down and he was fighting, and I distracted him–” I suck in a sharp breath, “They stabbed him.”

Malakai is stalking toward us, his face like thunder, “It was Christian. Pulled the parking lot security footage,” He speaks but it doesn’t appear to be directed at anyone. Beyond him, I see the brothers, Killian and Dean enter, Savannah at Killian’s side, spotting us immediately, their expressions grave.

“Do you know anything?” Olivia asks, gently rubbing my arm.

I shake my head, “I haven’t heard anything since we got here.”

She nods and begins to chew her lip, “Areyouokay?”

“The baby’s fine.” I answer.

Her dark brows pull low, “I didn’t ask about the baby, Willow. I know she’s okay, she’s got you.”

“She?” I gasp.

Olivia’s eyes widen, “Oh shit!”

“Kitten,” Malakai scolds lightly with a sigh.

“It’s a girl?”

“I – well – shit!” Oli stutters.

My hand goes to my abdomen, it’s a girl. We’re having a girl.

And I can’t even tell Bast! He wants to know, so bad. I have to find him.

I spin away from Olivia and the guys, heading toward the desk on the other side of the room, “Where’s Sebastian Levine?” I demand.

The nurse behind the unit flicks her eyes to me and then dismisses me almost immediately, “Are you family?” She asks with a flat tone, her whole demeanor a complete contrast to the sweet nurse I was with just moments ago. I should have asked her; she probably would have found out for me.

“I’m his girlfriend,” I answer.

“Name.”

“Willow Stanton.”

Her long fingernails tap against the keyboard, “Only family and registered persons can receive information on our patients.”

“I’m Malakai Farrow,” Malakai growls beside me, “You’ll see my name on file.”

“I see your name, Mr. Farrow,” The woman answers blandly.

“So, what of an update?” He snaps.

“He’s in surgery.” She huffs impatiently, “They need to repair his lung.”

My heart thumps wildly inside my chest and all sounds become white noise. Vaguely I hear Olivia and Malakai speaking, their voices sounding like I’m listening under water. I just need to see him.

It’s sometime passed midnight when I’m let into a private room in a quiet part of the hospital. It’s so silent here I could hear a pin drop. Sebastian has been out of surgery for some time now, but they wouldn’t let us see him until now and only one of us.

None of the others said a thing while they guided me to the room, leaving me to be with him. He’s sleeping right now, his monitor beeping steadily. The nurse said it’s likely he’ll be asleep for a while, which I guess is good, even though seeing him in a hospital bed, pale and still makes my stomach churn. It’s wrong for a man like him, a man with such a larger-than-life personality, to be so still, so quiet.

He's not a still sleeper, he moves and shifts and groans in his sleep, I’ve grown used to it in the past several weeks that watching him now, not moving an inch is terrifying. He doesn’t look alive even though I can hear the heart monitor and see his chest rising and falling steadily. Everyone I have spoken to has confirmed he will make a full recovery; his lung has been repaired and the stab wound treated but just seeinghim like this makes it hard to believe.

I lower myself into the chair at the side of the bed, leaning back to rest for a minute. I’m exhausted. Mentally. Physically. And before I know it, I’m drifting off only to be woken what feels like minutes later.
