“I’m pretty sure I love you,” came out of my mouth, shocking me so much that I slapped my hand over it.

I was so embarrassed for allowing my intrusive thoughts to spill from my lips, and when I tried to rush to the front of my car, Sylas stopped me.

“Hold on, beautiful.”

I couldn’t look at him, so I buried my face in his chest. He wasn’t having that, though, and slipped his index finger under my chin, lifting it and forcing me to look at him.

“I need to go,” I whispered.

“You can’t say something like that and duck out on me.”

“It slipped out before I?—”

“Before you could talk yourself out of confessing your true feelings?”

“Maybe.”

“I’m not sure about how I feel about your confession.”

“Why?”

“Because I’mpositiveI love you, and you’re onlypretty sureyou love me. That doesn’t match, baby. How can I get us on the same page?”

“We are on the same page. I love you, Sy.”

“And I love you.”

The last thing I thought we would do before I left was confess our love for each other in the parking lot, but stranger things had happened. We shared one last, long, heated kiss, and I finally hit the road. This weekend was everything, and I was already counting down the days until we were together again.

I wanted to call Mena, but she worked at her part-time job until six, so I called my next best option, Yandy. She answered right away, sounding a little winded.

“Hey, sis.”

“Hey. Did I interrupt something? You sound out of breath?”

“No. That’s your niece or nephew trying to take me out already, and I’m barely showing.”

“Don’t do my baby. He or she is just making their presence known.”

“I know, and I’m excited about this journey. I’ve waited a long time for this, but there still might be a few complaints.”

“Oh, I’m sure there will be. You know Mama already wants to start planning the baby shower. I’m actually headed to her place now to start the preliminary discussions.”

“I know. My mother slipped up and told me.”

“Oh shit. Was it supposed to be a secret?”

“If it was, y’all messed that up.”

“Don’t tell Mama I said anything, because I’ll never hear the end of it.”

“Mums the word. My name is Bennett, and I ain’t in it. It sounds like you’re on the highway. Where you coming from?”

“I spent the weekend with Sylas. Sis, I think I’m in love.”

“Oh, ain’t no think. You definitely are. I peep that every time you talk about him.”

I smacked my lips. “I haven’t been that bad.”
