On my lower back.
I cleared my throat and tried to step away, but he frowned and pulled me back closer. Looking down at the polished flooring, I cringed at my shoes. They were muddy, while his shoes were shiny and clean. Even our attire was completely different. While he was dressed in a suit, I was in jeans and a white top. Everyone else was also in formal attire.
I felt too young and inexperienced beside him. I had the sudden urge to go back to the elevator or hide myself in the storage room.
His pouty lips and soft voice had made me reluctantly accept his request to visit his office. But what have I done?
“You’ve already met Derek, and Paige is our assistant. She’s very scary,” he whispered in my ear when we walked closer to the huge corner office space separated into two rooms and a cubicle where a lady was working.
She looked up, seeing us approach, and gave Sean a stink eye. “You’re late for the investors’ meeting,” she said in a clipped voice and stood up. Slowly.
My lips parted when I saw her bump. Paige was extremely pregnant. I was surprised she was still working.
“Hi, I’m Chelsea,” I said with a small smile.
Her expression changed when she laid eyes on me. Her eyes beamed as she walked closer, clasping my hands. “Chelsea, it’s so nice to meet you!” Her tone was high-pitched, and I wanted to crochet a baby blanket for her. I already liked her. “I’m Paige.”
“You never smile at me like that,” Sean remarked, huffing at her and crossing his arms.
She glared at him. “You stole my banana milk.”
“That was three years ago!” He gasped. “And I bought you a yearly subscription of the milk.”
I tried to hide my giggle, but they both turned to me, making me cough. Sean narrowed his eyes at me while Paige grinned and hugged me side-ways.
“I’m keeping her,” she said.
I swear I saw Sean’s eye twitch, his hand wrapping around my waist. “She’s mine,” he said, as if she had stolen his favorite toy.
It was amusing to see the comical side of Sean with others. I knew he was playful with me, but I didn’t think he would act this way with his employees. I assumed he would be strict, but it was nice to seethisside of him at his workplace.
“Oh, I see,” Derek said, walking out of the office holding a paper. He said it as if that was a usual scene for him. “You’re playing tug-of-war with our new assistant without me?”
“Stay out of it.”
I jumped, seeing Paige and Sean snap at him in unison before each grabbed my arm. I let out a nervous chuckle and looked at Derek, hoping he would understand my plea for help.
“Kids,” he muttered underneath his breath, and showed the paper to Paige. “Can you help me with this? Court sent us this for the…”
Paige asked me to have lunch with her before she walked to Derek’s office, leaving me with Sean in the hallway. He was still holding my arm.
“Sean.” He looked at me. I nodded at his hand. “You can let go now.”
“Never,” he replied and dragged me to his office.
The office was bathed in natural light streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a view of the city skyline. The sleek, modern decor featured a palette of deep walnut wood and gleaming black marble. A massive mahogany desk anchored the room, its polished surface reflecting the soft glow of a minimalist chandelier overhead.
Who the hell has a chandelier in their office?
“This is where you’ll be working,” he said, pointing to the smaller desk placed in front of the shelves. It was perfect for assistant work, with a laptop and swivel chair.
“So this is where the magic happens,” I said, making my way to his desk.
The buttery smoothness of the black leather executive chair looked inviting. I plopped down, sighing at the comfort of being cradled by soft leather. The desk’s surface was cool to the touch, with a textured fabric of the rug beneath my feet.
“You’re enjoying yourself, aren’t you, Princess?” He whispered, leaning over the desk, his eyes full of mirth.
“You may address me as Ms. Rose,” I said, raising my chin. “What is your issue? Were you drunk driving, Mr. Tae?” I stood up, keeping a hand on my hip, and stared down at him. His lips curled at the corner when I continued, “Or were you having an affair with you mistress and your wife caught you?”
