“Not the point. They’ll be a bad influence on our Pihu.”
“Our?” Aww, I melt into a puddle.
“Well yeah. You’re both a package deal, so that also makes her mine. I’ll find her new and good friends, don’t worry.”
“She loves her current gang.”
“Gang?” His brows rise. “Those monsters have already corrupted her.”
“I think you’re overreacting,” I scoff. “And we’re getting late.”
“This discussion isn’t over,” he grumbles, unlocking the door. After buckling the seatbelt around me, he rounds the hood and gets behind the wheel.
Then he drives me home while holding my hand in his lap.
I set out to get over him tonight.
Now he’s my boyfriend!
My man.
Chapter Forty-Six
Nathan
I sit in my car at three in the morning outside Arya’s building. It’s been over two hours since I dropped her off. As soon as I drove back home, to my mansion in the suburbs, the walls began to close in on me.
I tried to calm my mind by blocking out the negative thoughts in my head before they could spiral. I went through the motions of changing my clothes, showering, and getting ready for bed. The half empty bottle of whiskey on my nightstand beckoned me.
I could feel its pull as natural as breathing.
A sharp reminder of how weak I’ve become.
The dangerous part was it wasn’t even my rock bottom. What would Arya think once I reveal to her? Could I even tell her the one constant dark thought that consumes me every second of the day? That before I met her, there was no reprieve from it. Until she came into my life, I was lost and hopeless.
She deserves someone whole.
I badly want to be, but I don’t know where to start.
The eerie silence and the chill in my home began to haunt me, and I knew I had to get the hell out of there. I drove around aimlessly for hours, and before I realised it, I was parking outside Arya’s residence.
I shouldn’t disturb her and let her rest. However, the need for my angel’s warmth and melodious voice wins. She soothes my frayed nerves with her presence alone. My demons are scared by the soulful light she exudes that they flee in a blink.
Stepping out of the car, I cross over to the revolving doors leading to the lobby. There’s no one around as I take the elevator and ride to her floor. Ringing her doorbell, I l lean against the doorframe and stare at the tiled floor.
Thinking she must be fast asleep when a minute passes, I’m about to turn around when soft footfalls reach my ears.
My heart pounds harder inside my chest the closer she comes until the need to touch her becomes unbearable.
The knob turns, followed by the door opening. In a floral Cami and matching shorts, hair messy, a sleepy Arya takes me in astonishment. Her favorite and cute fluffy slippers cover her pretty feet.
“Hey,” I murmur.
“Nathan.” She blinks, rubbing at her eyes. “Am I dreaming?”
“No, angel.”
Inching closer, she presses a hand to my abs. I can feel the heat even through my half-zipped hoodie.
