“Of course.”
“Thanks. Be there soon.” I hang up and face Nathan. Running a circle on his chest, I ruefully say, “I have to go.”
His fingers brush over my lips. “I know.”
“I’ll call a cab.”
“You will do no such thing,” he reprimands, all domineering and broody. “I’ll drive you home.”
“You don’t have to.”
I squeal when he picks me up from around the waist and starts carrying me to the bedroom. “Did you forget the part when I said I’m your man?”
“I think I did,” I feign ignorance. “Tell me again.”
“I’myourman, which means you’ll never drive home alone when you have me to give you a ride. You’re mine to protect, pamper, fuck, spoil, and love. Am I clear?”
My breath hitches when he says‘love’. “Yes. You’re my man.”
“Good girl.” He drives the praise home with a feral kiss.
Ten minutes later, we’re riding the elevator. His bulky shirt covers my dress as I lean against his side and my hand laced with his. I smell like him, which I love.
“How is Pihu?” he asks.
“She’s all better now.” I stare at our feet as I admit. “Though I’m scared to leave her alone. That’s why the sitter.”
He tips my chin up. “It’s okay after what happened. The feeling will pass.”
“She still plays with your handkerchief, you know.”
“The little thief.”
I playfully slap his arm. “You left it behind.”
He chuckles, tugging me out when we reach the underground parking.
“Pihu has friends now,” I continue yapping.
“Yeah?”
“Three, in fact.”
“Where did she meet them?”
“Rosalie brought her cute dogs to my place when she came to visit. It was so much fun and they got along-”
“You mean her little army?” demands Nathan.
“I guess you can call the three of them a small army.”
We halt near his car and he scowls down at me instead of unlocking. “Nope, Pihu will not be friends with them.”
“Why?” I gasp, perplexed. “Is there a rule that cats and dogs can’t be friends?”
“Rosalie’s pets aren’t dogs, they’re monsters.” Shuddering, he confesses, “I’ll have you know that Bunny tried to kill me. And Fire, he humps everything in sight. Nova just encourages him.”
Oh. My God! I swallow back my laughter. “He humped you?”
