One-tenth. Again, just one-tenth.
Somewhere in the routine, I’m not even sure where. Maybe a toe wasn’t pointed or maybe my legs briefly slid apart on a transition or maybe it was that handstand before my dismount, but when my score lights up the board, there’s my name in second place behind Emma’s, who is hyperventilating in the corner, and I have to settle for silver.
There’s so much about it that feels wrong. Yesterday, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I’d won my silver medal and not lost a gold, but this? This feels like losing, maybe even more so than it did in the team competition.
And, damn, does it hurt.
