“What happened? I thought he didn’t have his wolf,” Everlee squeaks out.
“He didn’t, but obviously something you did brought it out.”
“Me? She shakes her head and flops her hands. “It was the light… the Luxphera. He made me mad and my whole body started glowing. I touched him and that’s when he growled and then this.”
Jax. Jax.Everlee mindlinks.
Everlee, leave. I don’t want to hurt you.
The wolf takes a step forward.
“You’re not going to hurt me.”
Fucking hell, why can’t you ever just listen?
Why can’t you? I’m not leaving Jax. I’m not fucking leaving.
My wolf doesn’t trust you. You scared him.
Well, tell him I’m sorry. She shakes her head, then holds her hand out in the air towards the wolf, but not touching it. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. Your bipedal fae just really pissed me off. He’s good at doing that, it seems.”
Everlee!Jax barks through mindlink.
Bipedal?
“And it seems I make him mad too, which he honestly deserves.”
The wolf growls, taking another step forward, and Emmett tenses behind me.
“Emmett, do you need to leave?” I ask him.
His eyes cut to me, then back to the wolf. Wolf, because in Emmett’s eyes, gone is his friend and there is his enemy. They met after Jax’s wolf was taken from him, which is probably why they’ve been able to get along so well.
“I’m fine.”
Knox, get her,Jax commands.
“Don’t you fucking come near me,”she barks back, holding her hand out. “I’ve got this.”
I’m a fucking wolf, Everlee!Jax growls, but it’s more of frustration than anger.
“My dad is a fucking alpha wolf. You don’t think I’ve dealt with my fair share of pricks before?”
Her courage is so fucking attractive. And irritating. I just want to scream.
“Listen here, wolf. I’m a friend, not a foe. We’re all friends here. You may remember me? I’m sure your fae is always thinking about me. Probably can’t get me off his mind.”
Not helping,Jax snipes.
“Did she break the spell Samara placed?” Knox asks.
“No. I don’t think so. When she’s not around, blood has no taste. It’s almost like she temporarily blocks the spell or something.”
“So if I walk away, then Jax will come back?” Everlee asks thinking it over, her eyes flittering between us and the wolf.
I guess him shifting in the middle of the bathroom wasn’t the best idea. He probably feels like a caged animal.
“Let’s try that. The wolf, regardless, needs space.”
