“Your story?” Jax drones behind the paper.
I knew he wasn’t reading it!
“Right. So I’m walking around and see these vampires talking to Samara. The guy was a complete douche. Just seemed like a real prick, ya know?”
“Yea. I know the type,” I reply. Jax shifts in his chair, making me smile. Score one for Everlee.
“Anyway, they tell her y’all took her. Well, I didn’t know it was y’all at first. I just had a name, so I did some digging around and tracked it back to Allure, where Samara was losing her shit because she thought you had her and were lying. So I devised my excellent pizza plan and headed over.”
“You had me convinced. I was ready to sign up,” Knox chirps happily.
“You’re cute, like in a puppy dog kind of way.”
“He’s a selkie.”
“Ah, makes sense. Golden retrievers of the ocean.”
“And what are you?” She looks at Callum. “Power. Dominance. Sex appeal. Wisdom.”
Callum shifts uneasily, so I try to divert her attention. “Was it the best idea you coming here? What if Samara is tracking you?”
“Admittedly, probably not the best idea, but I had to get eyes on you. I had to know you were ok. Your parents and brother are freaking out.”
“You can’t tell them you found me, though. Samara will find out and know I’m staying here.”
“What is your plan? You can’t just stay here forever.”
“I know. I’m still working on it.”
“I can help if it would get you out of here faster,” Jax chimes.
“Will you just put the paper down and join the conversation? We all know your ass ain’t reading it, so you can stop pretending. Casting your googly eyes at Everlee. Damn. You should have just fucked her,” Lizzy snipes.
Jax stares at her in utter disbelief, puts his paper down, and walks out of the room without speaking.
“That works too,” she calls after him.
“Damn. Broody McBroodyville.”
“He isn’t too bad.”
Lizzy laughs out loud. “You want that wolf dick. That’s the only reason you’re saying that. I mean, hell, who wouldn’t? He’s fine as hell. Do you think he howls at the moon when he comes? Asking for a friend.” She gives me an overdramatic wink.
I smack her arm, rolling my eyes.
“I like you,” Knox says, sitting down beside her.
“I like you, too. I don’t want to stay long. I’ve got shit to do and people to bewitch. I’ll be in touch soon. In the meantime, try to figure out a plan. Samara wants you bad, and nothing good can come out of that.”
“You should probably watch your back, too. If she knows you two are friends, she’ll come after you as a way to get to Everlee,” Knox adds.
“Yea. I’ve been moving around quite a bit and covering my tracks. I have another witch from Helsgard who’s been helping me.”
“Tony?” I ask, bouncing my shoulders playfully.
“Stop,” she blushes.
“Ooh, someone has a crush.”
