“Don’t run from me, little fae.” His words are smooth like silk. Dangerous silk that has a mind of its own and wants to wrap around your throat and strangle you.
My heart is pounding out of my chest, an equal mix of fear and arousal.
His hand wraps around my throat as he pushes me back into the wall. “You should have listened to me.” He leans down, running his nose up my cheek into my hairline.
My breath is shallow as moisture pools between my legs.
No. This is not allowed.
“Get off me, Jax!” I press against his hard chest, but he doesn’t budge.
“Is that what you want, little fae?” His nose touches mine as his lips pause just above mine. Taunting. My body betrays my brain, as my chin tilts up to take his kiss, even though I know I shouldn’t.
Instead of kissing me, he smiles. “So easy, little fae. So eager for attention.”
“Fuck you!” I spit out through set teeth.
He chuckles low in this chest. “Wouldn’t you like to?”
“Wouldn’t you? Your boner is poking me in the stomach.”
He looks down and, using the brief distraction, I break his hold on my throat, duck under his arm, and push him against the wall before running away.
His shadowy chuckle lingers in the dark behind me, echoing and bouncing off the walls. Captivated by the darkness and the echoes within, I stop and turn around. Did he give up?
That’s when I feel it. Every hair on my body stands like iron filings searching for a magnet. My hands instinctively raise, readying to fire Luxphera into the dark.
The growl sounds just as a beast of a wolf leaps from the darkness, claws outstretched and teeth curled over white-hot gums.
Stunned, I fall back onto the floor and push backwards with my hands and feet as the wolf comes to a stop standing right above me.
“This isn’t funny, Jax!” I hold my hands up in front of him, a blue glow flowing between my fingers, dancing like smoke on the skin. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
A second later, the wolf shifts back into Jax, who is crouched over top of me, completely naked. My eyes meet his, then flicker away, uncomfortable with the way his gaze makes me feel.
“Everlee,” he pants, as his eyes dart wildly across my face. A mixture of anger and want twisting and fighting.
I shake my head, breaths coming in shallow, short puffs.
He leans down, so slowly that it’s almost like he isn’t even moving. He’s giving me time to stop him. To say no. But I can’t. I won’t.
Our lips touch, and his tongue explores. I part mine, letting him in. His body lowers just a bit, so his chest brushes against the outside of my clothes and his forearms rest on the floor. Our kiss deepens as he continues to explore, pulling moans out of me one after the other.
One hand reaches up and tightens in his hair, pulling him down to me while the other rakes up his back as I lift my body into his, grinding against his already hard cock. Our bodies continue to rock into one another, seeking friction, seeking release, as our kiss gets more wild and needy.
And then…
Nothing.
He stops and pushes away so fast, I’m pretty sure my mouth and tongue are still moving and kissing the air.
When my brain catches up, I slide into a sitting position and stare at him. “What the fuck, Jax?”
“I told you. I can’t.”
“No. You can. You’re choosing not to. There’s a difference!”
Completely stunned, I push myself to standing and brush down my shirt. “You are a coward. You’re scared of getting hurt, so you push everyone who cares about you away.”
