Imagine the ball. Imagine the Luxphera.
Darkness surrounds me as I close my eyes and concentrate on the ball.
My hand tingles and when I open my eyes, there is another ball. I throw it out into the darkness again, illuminating the room.
Again! I command myself.
The ball forms easier this time.
I repeat this over and over again, until I create them on command.
After Lizzy left, I needed some space. I’m pretty sure Lizzy is going to do something stupid because she had that look in her eye. It’s the same look she’s had since we were kids. She thinks she hides it from me, but I just don’t call her out on it, because she’d change and I wouldn’t be prepared for her shenanigans. Only this time it isn’t chemistry class or Janice’s hair color. This is my life, and I’m stuck here because I don’t have control over my powers and what’s worse is that Jax sees it. And calls it out.
Another light ball shoots into the dark before a hand wraps around my waist and spins me around.
“You need to stop,” he warns, eyes glowing gold.
“You need to leave,” I retort, trying to shove him off.
“Fucking hell, Everlee. Stop!” he growls, tightening his grip.
“What’s the problem? Is it because I’m useless or a liability?”
Am I being childish right now? Absolutely. But fuck it. I’m pissed. Pissed at myself and pissed at him. Frustrated that he’s right and I don’t have control over these powers. I want to help, but right now I feel like nothing more than a bump on a log, waiting to be scraped off by Samara.
Placing my hands on his chest, I shove him away. Hard.
He slides back several feet.
Whelp, I guess my super strength came in.
His head rotates partially to the side. “Everlee,” he warns in a low tone laced with venom.
“Leave. I’m practicing and I’d hate if you got hurt. I’d never be able to forgive myself. Or you.” The sarcasm is dripping off every word, playing back his words for him. There’s no way he can’t pick up on the fact I’m mocking him.
He rushes over to me in the blink of an eye and grabs my wrist, shoving me backwards into his transition cage. “Are you fucking kidding me right now? You’re pissed about that?”
“Get off me Jax,” I command through set teeth.
“Every word I said is true, and you know it. Youarea liability. Just because you’re a true fae… it doesn’t mean shit.”
“Get off me,” I repeat, pushing against him, but he doesn’t budge, this time using his shifter strength to keep him in place.
“Tell me you feel confident using your powers. Tell me!”
My knee travels up with an unforgiving swiftness, knocking his balls into his throat. His hands release as he bends over, holding his stomach.
“What the fuck, Everlee?” he growls out, eyes glowing even more gold. It’s his wolf. I can feel it at the edge, waiting to come out.
Pushing myself around him, I take off into the darkness of the room.
While I don’t think Jax will hurt me, now I’m not too sure. His wolf is there and I’m pretty sure I just pissed him off.
“Get back here, Everlee!”
“No.”
Silence dances around me just before the gust of wind blows my hair in my face.
