“I didn’t know what you would like, so I got all kinds.”
“That you certainly did.” There are enough muffins to feed a small army. Lemon zest, chocolate chip, blueberry, raspberry crumble, pumpkin, and several other ones that I’m not sure what they are.
“He may have gone overboard,” Callum chuckles.
“That doesn’t seem like something he would do,” I laugh and Knox just sticks his tongue out playfully.
“Fine! Next time, I’m going to only pick one for you and it will be squid flavored topped with roe.”
My stomach churns at the visualization of a squid muffin. “Not cool dude.”
Knox is laughing as I grab the double chocolate chunk muffin.
“Excellent choice,” Knox coos, holding up the wrapper of his. “You’re going to want some milk though.”
“What? No squid muffin?” I can’t help but smile when Knox is around. He just exudes charm and light and… pure happiness.
“Everlee,” Lizzy calls.
“What’s wrong?” Callum asks, reading my face.
“I’m outside. Open up the door. My ass is cold.”
“Lizzy. She’s here. Outside,” I answer, completely confused. Why is she over here? Did something happen?
“Lizzy? Why?” Callum asks, walking to the front.
“Back door. Only door.”
“She’s at the back,” I chuckle at her dirty little joke. I swear sex is on her mind all the time, or at the very least, inappropriate sexual jokes, usually at my expense.
Knox walks to the back door and standing there looking up at us is a black cat with emerald green eyes.
“Come in,” Knox invites, stepping out of the way.
The cat walks in, then shifts into Lizzy, her hair unkempt on top of her head. It’s been so long since I’ve seen it free of ties or braids that I forgot how much hair she actually has.
“Good morning, men! Everlee!” She reaches over to give me a hug, her bare breast rubbing against my shirt.
“Let me get you a blanket,” Callum offers, with a modicum of concern.
“That would be great. I’m freezing. Ooh, are those muffins?” she asks, walking over to the stove.
“Help yourself,” Knox offers.
Callum hands her a blanket just as she’s finding a seat beside me at the bar and Knox is getting her some hot pumpkin and vanilla tea.
“Well, isn’t this cozy? I see you’re taking care of my girl.” Lizzy pumps her eyebrows at me and smirks. “It’s about time someone is. Rather somefour.”
“Lizzy,” I subtly scold.
She looks at me with a dumbfounded look, then rolls her eyes. “Fine.”
“What’s going on? Why are you here?” Callum asks before I can.
“Geez. Can’t a girl come say hi to her BFF? Her sister from another mister?”
“Liz.”
