“I want to do this again,” I hear myself saying. “Promise me.”

She brings her face to mine and kisses me. “I promise. Now, will you please fuck me?”

“Gladly.” And I do.

CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

Ashley

The bright light shining on my face wakes me. Thank God it’s the weekend and I don’t have to work.

I open one eye and see the sunlight streaming through the window.

I can feel the warm little body of Louie at my feet.

And I can definitely feel the heavy arm of Jared Storm wrapped around my middle.

I can’t believe I slept with him.

My back is to him, and I keep still, wanting to put off the inevitable a little longer—that moment when Jared and I make eye contact and have to acknowledge that our friendship is forever changed.

“Morning, Ash.”

I stop trying to breathe quietly. “How’d you know I was awake?”

“I could tell.” He drags his hand down to my bare thigh. “Should we get it over with?”

“What?”

“The face-to-face awkwardness.”

“I’m not sure.”

“Come on. Let’s do it.” His voice is tinged with humor.

I turn in his arms until I’m staring into chocolate brown eyes with flecks of green.

“See?” His eyes crinkle at the corners. “Not so bad, right?”

Wrong. This feels so out of my league of manageability.

Jared takes over the bedroom. Any room. But in my bedroom—or I guess, technically, our bedroom—he’s all I see.

“It’s bad, J.” I sit up, realizing too late that I’m naked and Jared can now see my breasts fully.

He saw it all last night anyway.

What I care about is losing my best friend.

“This will fuck everything up,” I whisper to him.

“It won’t.” He sits up and cups my cheeks with his hands. “You and I will be good, Ashley. I know it.”

“How do you know that?”

“The same way I know that your favorite color is purple.” He lifts his hand off my cheek so he can point at my purple suitcase in the corner of the room. “Just like I bet I can guess what t-shirt you brought with you to Montana for sleeping in. Does it have a duck on it with a cute little phrase?”

I stare at him. “You’re so damn cocky.”
