“What in the ever-loving fuck am I doing,” I say this aloud to no one in particular.
I laugh and shake my head in my hands. That man is so possessive, and I can’t help feeling lucky that he is mine. I grab the duffel bag and begin loading it with clothes and toiletries. I return my dress to a hanger and throw on some yoga pants and a sweatshirt. My hair is in a messy bun, and I go to make myself some dinner before Dax returns and takes me off to his place. I look around at my surroundings and think about how I never got settled in this apartment. I feel like it's as if I already wanted to move in with Dax. We are one step closer to our life together, our future. Now, I just need to tell Emma about this, and oh god, Brodie.
ChapterThirty-Three
Liv
I have settledin nicely with Dax, and my life just seems to be so perfect. I gave up my job in the emergency department after much persuasion from Dax. Even Emma, the traitor, agreed that I was burning my candle at both ends for a while.
“Dax, can you come in here?”
He steps out of the closet with his suit on, and I am floored at how delicious he looks in it. His toned, tanned body and his green eyes meet mine.
“Did you have fun golfing today?”
He gives a throaty laugh. “No, I never enjoy these charity events, but it was for a good cause. Now just the dinner and silent auction tonight to end it.”
I suck in a breath and bite my lip to stifle a groan as his gaze sweeps over me from head to toe. He sees my reaction to him as he makes his way over. He grabs me by the hips and presses a kiss to my forehead.
He bends over to whisper in my ear, “Be careful, Liv. If you keep looking at me like that, I’ll ruin that dress and ravage you here for the night.”
His hot breath on my neck as he peppers kisses up and down my pulse point makes me giggle.
“Are you laughing at me, Liv?” he asks in a playful tone.
“No, It just doesn't seem like such a bad idea.”
He pulled his head back to look at me with mischief twinkling in his eyes. “My, how insatiable you have become, Liv. I think I can get used to this. I just might have you pregnant again very soon if you keep this up.”
Without thinking further, I reply, “I think I might want to be married before I have any more kids, Dax.”
I immediately regret that outburst as he pushes back and leaves my embrace. He looks at me, and I don't know how to read what is on his face.
“I agree. That is probably for the best.”
He turns around and leaves me alone as he retreats into the closet. I call out to him with indecision. “I was hoping you could zip me up if you get the chance, Dax.”
He returns from the walk-in closet looking a little nervous for what seems like forever. “Sure thing, baby.” He stands behind me, and I attempt to take back those words that so hastily left my mouth.
“Umm, Dax, I didn’t mean we should get married. I just thought, well…I don't know why I said that.”
He slowly zips up my dress and places a chaste kiss on the back of my neck behind my ear. I shiver at the unexpected contact, and he slowly pivots me around so I am facing him.
“I couldn’t agree more.”
I look at him, confused, and as if he senses my confusion, he takes a small black box out of his pocket and drops down to one knee. I gasp audibly and step back. He looked up at me with a knowing smile.
“Now, Liv, you aren’t going to make me chase you again, are you?”
I shake my head no.
“Very well then.” He took a moment and then looked at me with adoring eyes. “Liv, The first time I met you, I knew that I felt something different and that you were the one for me. You make me feel things and want things I never thought I would. I thought I almost lost you after that night at the beach. When I found you again, I was given a second chance, and I know I couldn’t let you get away from me again. Now that you are pregnant with my child, I didn’t think I could be happier. Will you marry me and make me the happiest man alive? Will you be mine forever?”
I look down at him with tears falling from my eyes and trailing down my face. “Yes, Dax, I will marry you. I’ll be yours forever.”
He quickly gets up from the floor and drags me into a tight hold. “Liv, I love you so much.”
He kisses me so passionately that I feel it down to my toes. He takes my hand and places the ring on my finger. I wrap my arms around his neck and bring him closer for another series of kisses. He chuckles, and I feel it vibrate from within his chest.
