My eyes fall shut, and I let sleep take hold of me, finally feeling like I’m being protected.
I never knew that was a possibility for me, but I feel safe and loved by these two Alphas.
Chapter 27
Sloane
My hand clenches around the phone in my hand. Pure fucking fury courses through my veins.
I just got a call from Kyren. He has the foster brothers’ address. Guess they’ve been looking into them also and thought I’d want to know where to find Luke.
Of course I fucking do. But why do they care so much?
If Harlan and the guys want Brad dead, that means that he’s done something to their Omega.
Something tells me there's a lot Lexi doesn’t know about her sister, but I’m not going to bring attention to it. If Silva hasn’t told Lexi, that's her right. Same with Lexi not wanting Silva know what Luke really did to her.
I’ve never felt so murderous in my life. I’ve met my fair share of fucked up pieces of shit, and I’ve had the privilege of ending their lives, too.
When Lexi told me what happened to her as a teenager, I was ready to leave the cabin to track down that motherfucker and end him that night. But my Omegas needed me. I stayed for them because I will always put them first.
My phone dings. I look down at the message from Kyren with Luke’s location.
Perfect. Looks like this sack of shit doesn’t have much time left on this earth. He better enjoy it while he can, because we’re coming for him.
“What’s going on?” Aiden asks, coming to stand next to me. I’ve been staring out the window at the snow-covered landscape. Lexi and Emmett are still sleeping, drained from Emmett’s heat. It broke sometime last night.
How do we go from having the best few days of our lives, to this?
We should be heading home and taking it easy while we come down from the high of the heat. But instead, we have to work.
“Kyren just called.” I show him my phone. “We got Luke’s address.”
His face darkens, brows furrowing together. “You asked him to find it?”
“No. Looks like your brother and his pack were already looking into them. They were nice enough to give Luke to us.”
Aiden’s body is wound tight. I told him about what happened to Lexi last night when the two Omegas fell asleep. He went outside and lost his shit. Took the axe that was used to cut wood and went to town on a tree until he exhausted himself. I’ve never seen my lover cry, but I saw the sheen in his eyes as he walked back inside.
When Lexi broke down in my arms, her sobs tore my heart in two. It took everything in me not to cry, but I had tears in my eyes as well.
Aiden vowed to find Luke and end his life. Guess the universe just gave us a little gift to help us out.
“When are we going?” he asks, voice a low growl.
My gaze flicks towards the direction of the room. “Tomorrow. We’d be assholes if we left them now. We go home today, have a night at home, then tomorrow morning we head out.”
“What do we tell them?” Aiden’s brows furrow. “I don’t like the idea of lying to them.”
“We tell them we were called in for an assignment. It’s not a lie, exactly. We end Luke, then we talk to our Omegas about it. I don’t want to worry them when we don’t have to.”
“You don’t want them looking at us differently, that's what it is,” Aiden adds.
“Partly. They know what we do for a living, that we’ve killed people. But what will they think knowing we get a thrill out of it? That it gives us a high? They’ll think we’re monsters.”
“I don’t like it. But... I’ll do it because I want that sack of shit dead. When he hurt our Omega, he signed his death certificate.” His lip peels back in a snarl.
Mine curves into a sadistic smile. “It’s been a little while since we’ve gotten to play. I’ve missed the warmth of blood between my fingers.”
