“Yeah.” Lexi chews on her lower lip. “I’m wondering if we should just shut the club down for a week.”
“Is there no one who could fill in for both of you?”
“I mean, I could ask Briar. But the guy who normally covers for Emmett has been taking a lot of shifts because Emmett’s been helping the neighboring town. I don’t want to ask, and I know Emmett would feel bad.”
“Ask him to cover and let him know I’ll pay him triple his normal pay for doing it.”
“What?” Lexi’s eyes widen. “Why?”
“Because you're both my Omegas and I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
“Thank you.” She steps up to me. “I really appreciate it.”
“Any time, sweetheart.”
The club is busy. Lexi is running around, trying to keep up, but I can see she’s stressed, and I don’t like it. We tried to help, but she told us to go sit back down.
She’s stubborn, too, it seems.
“We have an issue.” Sloane comes back to our table. He went to check on Emmett, seeming just as worried about him as I am with Lexi. “He’s acting like he’s okay, but he’s getting grumpy as fuck. Very irritable, and I don’t like it. He’s mean, Aiden.”
“Is he going into heat?”
“He doesn’t look like it, but it could be the start of it. You smelled the change in his scent, too, right? And I’m more than happy to have that man's cock in my mouth any time I can, but even Lexi has commented that Emmett’s sex drive isn’t usually this high.”
“Does she think he’s going into heat?”
“She’s not sure,” Sloane sighs. “She said anytime Emmett has gone into heat, he’s distanced himself a few days before and after. This is her first heat with him since they got together.”
“Shit.” I run my hands through my hair. “Good thing you got the cabin packed. The only issue is that it’s already snowing hard. I don’t think the truck will be able to make it up there.”
Just then, Lexi walks by. “Lexi!” Sloane shouts.
She looks over at us, and we wave her over.
“What's up?”
“We don’t want to interrupt you when you’re trying to work, but we might have an issue.”
“What?” Her brow furrows.
“The snow is coming down hard. I don’t think we’re going to be able to get up to the cabin for Emmett’s heat.”
“Shit.” Lexi thinks. “Wait. No, we can.”
“How?” Sloane asks.
“We have snowmobiles in the shed in the backyard. We can use those to get up there.”
“Perfect,” I tell her. “Sweetheart, I think you’re going to have to let everyone know you and Emmett will be off for a few days.”
“Fuck,” she sighs. “Do we have to leave right now? How is he?”
“He seems fine for now. I think you can finish your shift before we go.”
“Okay.” She nods, looking toward the entrance. I follow her gaze to find Emmett standing near the door. He’s in a black T-shirt and jeans. His arms are crossed, and there is a pissed-off look on his face.
If you didn’t know the man, you would think he was just a grumpy bouncer.
