“Not much. But he said there’s nothing he knows about family related, like birthday or whatnot.”
Jae shook his head. “Damn.”
“Do you think it’s wrong that I asked Sebastian for his opinion on the whole Shiloh situation?”
“No. Will she be pissed when she finds out you were snooping behind her back? Yes. But would she be even more pissed if you tried to confront her directly? Also, yes.”
“Great,” I huffed dryly.
“Honestly, it’s a tough situation, but you know we were raised on that ‘see something, say something’ logic. And you have the purest heart. There’s no malicious intent. If Shiloh knows you well enough, she’ll know that too.”
I sighed, leaning against my locker.
Jae continued. “I think if I was in your position, I would have done the same thing. Scratch that. If you weren’t reaching out to Sebastian, I definitely would have maybe even risked bodily harm and confronted her myself. This isn’t normal and there’s definitely something wrong. Maybe she should see her doctor about the Xanax and get something stronger.”
I met his gaze, studying his serious expression. My chest swelled with emotion and pride that Jae was my best friend slash cousin. He was just a solid guy, reliable and good through and through. I was also relieved that he was willing to get maimed to try and help Shiloh with whatever the hell was going on in her life. At least it meant that I wasn’t being over the top protective about the situation. That I wasn’t wrong in my instincts, my gut intuition that was screaming at me there was something wrong. Something off. It was making my head hurt with all the assumptions running laps in my brain.
“Thanks, Jae.” He shoved my shoulder, and we both straightened up at the sight of Shiloh heading our way.
“Lunch?” I asked Shy, holding out my hand to join ours together. She eyed my hand, flicking her gaze towards Jae before lacing our fingers together.
“I hope you wash your hands after you take a piss.”
I would’ve paused at the remark if it had come from anyone else, but instead I just laughed and added, “Only if I get piss on my hand.”
She gave me a glare without any malice, and I bumped my hip against hers, making her softly smile. I tucked it away into my collection of Shiloh smiles and laughs.
“Sooo…” Neither of us bothered to look back at Jae, who was walking behind us. I knew exactly what he was going to comment on.
“Yes, Jae. We’re holding hands. If you’re feeling left out, Enoch has a second hand not in use.”
I couldn’t help but chuckle and glanced over my shoulder to see Jae smiling like a goon.
“But what aboutyourother hand, Shiloh?” I could tell he was joking by his exaggerated whine.
“This isn’t a threesome. If you want your dick sucked, go ask Samantha.”
Jae gasped at the mention—and not quietly—of his soccer crush. Shiloh stumbled forward from a playful shove to the shoulder by Jae and smirked up at me.
Jae peeked his head between our shoulders. “To be clear, you’re implying that Nox’s dickisgetting sucked?”
“What did you think happened when we were alone in his room?”
I almost choked on saliva, coughing to clear my throat while I shook my head quickly at Jae. I could feel my cheeks getting flushed.
“No, no. I will not have any sexual rumors be spread. No dick sucking has occurred.”
Jae laughed and put me into a headlock. “God you’re so easy to mess with.”
I shoved him off, not before he ruffled up my hair.
“Whatever you dip.”
“Hey now, don’t get pissed at me. It was your lover who implied otherwise.”
I quickly glanced at Shiloh, but she didn’t seem bothered by Jae’s use of the word lover. She punched Jae in the gut though, forcing him out from the middle of us, and we linked our hands again.
“Come on, fucktrumpet,” Shiloh called out, as we continued walking further away from Jae who was hunched over dramatically from the gut punch. “I know you’ve got abs of steel over there from how much you like to show them off. Quit acting like a pussy.”
