I could feel his gaze burning my skin. “These are infected.” He mumbled “fuck, Matt, already?”

I groaned. As if it weremyfault. I was the one stark naked on the shower floor in front of my best friend with zero ability to pull myself back up, as ifI’dwantedthis.

“Come on.” He sighed, pulling one of my arms over his shoulder and dragging me to my feet after him. I swayed where I stood, vision clouded.

“You’re okay.” He mumbled, forcing a towel into my hand “put that around yourself. We’re gonna have to go to the healers.”

“I’m-“

“Don’t you dare tell me you're fine.”

I whined in protest but did as I was told; it wasn’t exactly like I was in top shape to argue.

As expected, I wasfine- well, the very kind, young, dark skinned trainee had tutted and told me to be more careful with myself, but ultimately she’d given me some kind of ointment which she was currently rubbing into the scars on my face and told me to sit a few days out and that was it; my dizziness had passed, so I was now perched on the edge of the bed, shirtless and, according to Jack, about the same colour as the white sheets. Now that he wasn’t worried anymore he was leaning back in the chair he was sitting on by my bed, arms crossed and grin plastered onto his face.

I had to stop myself from gaping whenTheoshuffled into the room.

“Well…you’re the last person I was expecting to see.” I remarked, brows furrowed, after a moment of silence.

The healer mindlessly got back to work as the lad shifted where he stood “okay.” He settled on replying, tone gruff.

Jack huffed out a chuckle “okay.” He smirked back “and you are here because…?”

“Heard Matthew’s wounds got infected.” He mumbled with the face of someone who was kind of wishing the floor would open up and swallow him whole.

“No need to fret about me, Danes.” I smirked, though I felt like it had more resemblances to a grimace and Theo’s gaze drifted down to the thankfully empty bucket by my bed.

“Hm. That what Stryker meant when he said you’d felt ill?”

“What he meant.” Jack supplied, glaring at me “was that he almost passed out in the shower. Fucking idiot.”

“I didn’tmeanto.” I scoffed back insolently, scowling.

“Like you didn’tmeanto forget todisinfect them?”

“I obviouslydidn’tmean to.”

“All done.” The healer said cheerfully.

She turned away from me and Theo grinned.

“Octavia.” He greeted, tone shifting to something warmer than what I was used to.

I tracked their interaction with rapidly shifting eyes.

She blinked in surprise “you got in?” She asked, voice rising a pitch to express her shock.

“Likewise.” He chuckled.

“Huh.” She limited herself to saying, smiling back at him “well, good luck. Hope I won’t have to patch you up.”

“Can’t make any promises.” He grinned “but I’ll try to stay out of trouble.”

“Sure.”She drawled, rolling her eyes fondly and striding past him.

“Fuck buddy?” I asked distantly, fighting to keep any hints of jealousy out of my voice, followingOctaviawith my gaze.

Theo’s eyebrows shot up at the question “no.” He replied simply.
