She slipped her hand between us and squeezed my cock. “Him.”

Motherfucker. “Are you sure?” Lust had a way of making people do things they might regret come morning. “I’m cool just hanging out and talking. Sex doesn’t have to be on the table tonight.”

“You’re a gentleman to say that. But Jace, I just want to feel you, all of you. I want to experience that connection we have. We can talk tomorrow or the next day. Unless you’re worried that I might bite.” Her smile was blinding.

I threw my head back and laughed hard. “Careful, Monroe. I might want you to.”

“Bring it, flyboy,” she volleyed back, rocking against my erection.

I was on my feet in a nanosecond with her in my arms. “Where’s your room?”

She wrapped her legs around me. “Down the hallway. The last door on the right.”

As I carried her, I kept telling myself to calm down because the way she smelled, like lilacs on a warm summer day, and theway she was nibbling on my ear was enough to make me lose it like a virgin teenage boy. But the craziest and scariest part of all, I was all in with this beautiful creature.

MONROE

Iloved how easy it was for Jace to carry me. I felt like a pampered queen as I buried my nose into his neck. He smelled clean like soap and cold wind with a hint of spice that made me calm, as though I could conquer anything.

“I want to feel you inside me,” I whispered into his ear as he entered my bedroom.

He growled low, a sound that sent shivers down my spine.

The moment he set me on two feet near my bed and gave me the most loving and desperate look, I knew I wanted this—him, us. It was time to shed the past, to get rid of all the hurt and heartache, and begin anew.

Moonlight spilled in through the slats in the blinds, casting shadows across his strong jawline. I was silently questioning how I got so lucky to snag Jace’s attention. With his quiet confidence that made him sexier than his good looks alone, he could have any woman he wanted.

He smiled that cocky grin that had first caught my attention and pulled his shirt over his head in one fluid motion.

A soft sound escaped me. The sight of him—tanned skin, defined muscles, a few scattered scars telling stories of his past—made my mouth go dry.

My hands slid up and down his chest, feeling the hard planes and the ridges of his abdomen. Then I traced the defined V disappearing below his jeans, and a whimper dropped from my mouth.

He tipped up my chin, his blue eyes darker than before. “One last chance to back out.”

I shook my head as I turned on the bedside lamp, throwing the room into a soft light. I needed to see all of him, and the moonlight wasn’t cutting it.

“Better,” he said.

No kidding. In the light, he was more than I imagined and everything I wanted. Despite my determination not to fall for a military man, I had a feeling I would break that rule into a million pieces after tonight.

He unbuttoned my blouse as I unbuckled his belt, our gazes never wavering.

God, he had the bluest eyes I’d ever seen, like the clear, calm waters in the South Pacific.

I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this alive. This wasn’t the moment to compare, but I was convinced I had been missing out. After all, the only man I’d been with was Ryan. Nerves poked at my stomach as I hoped I still knew what to do with a man.

The cool air hit my skin when my blouse fell to the floor, revealing a simple cotton bra.

“God, you’re so goddamn perfect,” he murmured, tracing the edge of the fabric with his finger.

The gentleness in his touch made me tremble.

“Tell me what you want.”

“You,” I replied, my fingers fumbling to undo the button on his jeans.
