By the time I got home, the house was unusually quiet. “Hello?” I called as I stomped snow off my feet and closed the door behind me. I bent and stripped off my boots. “Are my lovers home?”
I was met with silence. Narrowing my eyes suspiciously, I checked the living room, the kitchen, and the dining room, but they weren’t there, which left the bedrooms. As soon as I got upstairs, I went straight to our room, and the sight that greeted me nearly made my heart burst from the adorableness. Jake and Logan were curled up on the bed, Jake holding Logan against his chest.
Fuck, they make a beautiful sight.
I stepped into the room and slid off my coat, dropping it on the floor before I slipped into bed behind Jake. I snuggled against his back, and he moaned in his sleep. It took a few minutes for his eyes to open, but when they did, he smiled at me.
“Hey, babe. Happy anniversary.”
“You remembered.” I held in a laugh as he gave me a squinty glare. “Happy anniversary to you, too.” I kissed him gently on the lips and nodded at Logan. “How is he?”
“Good. We watched some movies when we came home, and we had a nice talk. We’re going to help Logan get situated here. He definitely wants to live in New Gothenburg, so I’m going to start helping him look for jobs. I remember PD saying something about the Harlot-owned café looking for people. You know the one. Shit, I can’t think of the name. You like it there.”
“Grounds and Gears?” I offered.
He hummed in acknowledgement and yawned. “Yeah, that one. After our talk we got a bit tired, seeing as we didn’t get much sleep last night, so we decided to take a nap. What’s the time? Maybe we slept longer than we meant to.”
“It’s just past three,” I said, snuggling into him tighter and burying my nose against his neck. I breathed in his scent and sighed, my gaze drifting to Logan’s face. He was angelic, even when he was sleeping. He looked so peaceful, dark lashes lacy against his pale skin.
“We should get up.” Jake yawned again and turned his head so his cheek touched mine. “I’m glad you’re home. I miss you when you’re at work. Oh, shit. I forgot to tell you, I can’t see you off in the morning. PD called. Will’s having a bad day today, and PD wants me to come in tomorrow in case he has to stay home.”
“Hm. What’s Logan going to do tomorrow while you’re at the parlor?”
He shrugged, which slightly jostled Logan, who grumbled but didn’t wake up. “I’m not sure. He’s got his car here. He can go explore the city.”
“That’s true. What about when I’m away? We’ll need to discuss that,” I whispered, kissing his cheek and down his neck. He moaned and raised his chin so I had more access to his tantalizing skin. I nibbled on one of his sensitive spots, and he trembled against me while muttering the F-word.
“If you don’t want us to touch each other—”
“Don’t be silly,” I interrupted, biting at his neck hard enough to leave a bruise. He sucked in air between his teeth. “You’re so gorgeous together, sweetheart. Iwantto see you fuck Logan, and the other way around. I was going to tell you that I want you to video message me every night so I can see you together.”
“Yeah?” He grinned and hooked a finger under my chin, slamming his mouth against mine. We kissed passionately, enough to jostle Logan again, and this time he woke up with a large yawn. I saw him blink at us from the corner of my eye, and his lips curved into a smile. He leaned up toward us as though instinctively. We broke off our kiss so I could slant my mouth over Logan’s. After we finished kissing, Jake did the same to him.
“Hey, sleepyhead.” I pressed a small kiss to the tip of his nose. “Did we tire you out last night?”
Logan laughed. “A little, yeah.”
“We can do it again tonight if you want,” I teased, flicking my tongue over his lips.
“We can’t,” Jake interrupted, poking me in the ribs. “Dad called and managed to convince us to come over and celebrate the birth of Elsie’s baby. He said she’s coming home today and wants us to be there. When I told him we still had a friend over that we didn’t want to torture, he put Nonna on the phone.”
I cringed. “Oh God, he didn’t.”
“He did!” Jake shook his head at Logan’s chuckle. “Even Logan got to hear Nonna’s lecture.”
“She’s an interesting woman.” He laughed harder and the sound warmed my stomach. I liked hearing the happiness from him.
“Interesting is one word,” I grumbled, but smiled because I loved Nonna. From the moment she’d met me, she’d taken me under her wing, feeding me and treating me as though I was just another grandchild. All of Jake’s family had included me and Mom, and that’s what Logan needed right now—a family.
“Long story short, we’re going to Dad’s house tonight for dinner.” Jake sighed.
“Who else is going to be there?” I wasn’t sure if I should ask.
“You mean whoisn’tgoing to be there?” He grinned. “Because there’s a new baby in the family, Dec. Apparently yesterday didn’t satisfy the need to overdo things. No, we have to have a second day of feasting. Every man, woman, person, dog, cat, and horse will be there. You know Ainsley will bring her pooch.”
“The rat?” I teased.
Jake poked me again. “Don’t you dare call him that around Ainsley. You know what happened the last time you did.”
