I sat upright so fast my head spun. Surrounding me was a dark, dusty Victorian-style room lit by yellow beeswax candles that filled the air with the smell of honey. The sweet scent would've been pleasant if not for the discomfort crawling up my spine. Where was I? Why was I here? What the hell happened?
As I rubbed the back of my head, I looked around more until I recognized a spot on the floor with distinctive grooves in the wood, and a butt-shaped lack of dust on the otherwise dusty area.
Then it rushed back to me. That was where I'd sat to use the spirit box. But my item was nowhere in sight.
I gasped as I recalled the mysterious distinct voice. At first I assumed it came from the spirit box, but it was crystal clear compared to the fuzzy distorted voice clips from the radio frequencies. It sounded like it was physically inside the room with me.
But that wasn't possible. As much as I believed in ghosts and the paranormal, they couldn't really manifest like flesh and blood...
“Good morning, omega! Or, I suppose I should say good evening. What time is it, anyway? It's always hard to tell in these fall months—”
“AHH!”
I shrieked and fell backwards. That voice again! It was the same one that called out to me earlier before I went unconscious.
My heart pounded and sweat trickled at my brow. I couldn't see anybody in the room. But that voice was real. I whipped my head around, desperate for this situation to make sense, until—
I saw him.
Easily six-feet tall with windswept hair and a warm smile, the man in front of me was no ordinary alpha.
For one thing, he was glowing.
And blue.
And translucent.
I thought I was going to faint again.
But when I swayed, the alpha frowned in concern and rushed towards me.
“Are you all right?” he asked.
I managed to catch myself on the couch cushion, making me realize someone had moved me there.
No, not someone.Him. The weird glowing blue alpha.
“Huh...?” I said.
“I asked if you were all right.”
There it was again. That voice. Coming from the guy who wasn't even fully visible.
“Um... Sorry, I seem to have hit my headreallyhard,” I said. “But are you, er, always blue?”
“As a matter of fact, yes, I am,” he said, puffing out his chest like it was a source of pride.
I blinked slowly. Then I pinched myself.
“Ow.”
The blue translucent alpha raised a brow. “Why did you pinch yourself?”
“To make sure I'm not dreaming.”
The alpha floated over as he examined me. “Your bright eyes indicate you're wide awake to me.”
Floated...?
