I blinked again as my mind tried to wrap itself around this situation. Aside from being blue and translucent, the alphafloated.
All signs indicated one conclusion… But there was no way that could be right, could it?
And what did he say earlier? That I had bright eyes? Before I knew it, I found myself blushing. No alpha had ever commented on my eyes like that, especially one I'd just met.
This is crazy… I'm thinking of him as an alpha and not a glowing blue floating ghost.
My heart skipped a beat. He couldn't really be a ghost, right? That would be like stumbling into a huge pile of treasure.
I stared at the alpha in awe. Aside from his appearance, he wasn't acting ghostly—or at least, not in the way I expected from TV and movies. He didn't seem malicious, and he wasn't actively trying to scare me. In fact, he seemed worried about me.
Before I could even begin to get a handle on this weird situation, the blue glowing alpha cleared his throat, stood up straight and smiled.
“Enough of my rudeness. My name is Edgar. What's yours?”
I felt a fluttering sensation in my chest upon learning his name.
“I… I'm Mel,” I said.
“Wonderful to meet you, Mel.” Edgar grinned, flashing a gorgeous set of white teeth. Well, bluish white, but whatever. “How's your head? I tried to catch you while you fell, but I wasn't fast enough,” he said, sounding disappointed in himself.
The fuzzy chain of events came back to me. I'd sat there on the floor with the spirit box, trying to contact any paranormal entities when a sudden voice called out to me. I realized now that it was Edgar's voice. That smooth, confident timbre was unmistakably his. But when he manifested in front of me, it startled me so bad that I must have passed out.
I blushed furiously in embarrassment. I was a ghost hunter. It was literally my job to encounter the paranormal. The fact that I'd screamed and gone unconscious upon seeing a real life ghost was mortifying. Good thing I wasn't filming…
Was I?
Stomach lurching, I scrambled to find my phone. It laid face up on the floor, exactly where I'd left it. Edgar must not have touched it.
“My phone,” I blurted out. “Is it still filming?’
“Whatever do you mean by that?” Edgar asked.
Right. He was a ghost. Without knowing what time period he was from, I couldn't assume he knew anything about modern technology.
Wait a second. There was a real life ghost right in front of me! Why was I worried about my stupid phone? Maybe Ididhit my head pretty hard.
Brimming with excitement, I gazed up at Edgar. Not only was he a ghost, but he was incredibly handsome. His translucent nature did nothing to dampen his physical attractiveness. He could've been on the cover of a magazine… If he could even be photographed.
Before I knew it, I unabashedly stared at him with my jaw agape. The longer I looked at him, the more exciting this became. I'd done it. I'd really done it. My whole life had led up to this moment. I'dmeta ghost. I was talking to one right now!
Edgar tilted his head with a concerned frown. “Oh dear. Please don't tell me you have a concussion. I won't be able to lift you off the couch to take you to a doctor.”
“No, I don't have a concussion,” I reassured him. “I'm just… Wow.” I laughed breathlessly. “You're really here, right in front of me!”
Edgar beamed. For some reason, he seemed just as enthusiastic as I was. “Indeed! Andyouare here as well.” He sighed wistfully and gazed at me like I was one-of-a-kind. “This is the best day of my life.”
My cheeks suddenly felt warm. Why did he say that? I was just an average human.
To prove I didn't have a concussion, I stood up and dusted myself off. “Sorry, I feel like we had an awkward introduction.”
“No need to be sorry. You woke up from being unconscious, dear Mel.”
The heat in my cheeks ramped up to a hundred. Dear Mel? Nobody called me that, especially not handsome ghost alphas.
I forced the flustered feeling down. He was just being nice, that was all. Plenty of people—ghosts or not—used terms of endearment with strangers as a way to be friendly. I shouldn't give it any unnecessary meaning.
“So, is this your home?” I asked, looking around the room.
