He couldn’t be. He was a strong, sexy vampire. I was just a normal, nerdy human. There was nothing that made me special. A vampire like Theo could have any partner he wanted. There was no way he would have even a shred of interest towards me. I felt stupid for even considering the possibility, and pushed it out of my mind.
Theo’s eyes flickered to the door. He seemed a bit jumpy, almost the same way he acted when he knew the mugger was following us. Was he worried about something?
“Wait. If you’ve never dated…” Theo faced me with curious eyes. “Does that mean you’re a virgin, Max?”
I didn’t think my cheeks could blush any harder, but they apparently could. It felt like my face was about to melt off.
Theo chuckled. “Sorry if that’s an awkward question.”
“I am,” I replied, forcing myself to meet his gaze. “I know it’s embarrassing for a grown man, but--”
“Not at all,” Theo interrupted, putting his hand. Though his skin was slightly cool, tendrils of warmth spread through my leg where he touched me, sending a warm tingle up my spine. “I think the concept of virginity is kind of stupid in the first place. I mean, you’re not some object in a glass case, you know?”
I nodded. I’d had similar conversations with some of my young clients before, but for some reason, I had difficulty applying the logic to myself, like there was a disconnect in my mind that I couldn’t get over.
Just like now.
Why was Theo talking to me about this? I knew it couldn’t be because he was trying to make me feel bad, or ashamed. He wasn’t that type of person. Was he just curious? Trying to gather knowledge? For what purpose? What was so interesting aboutme?
“Can I ask something else?”
“Sure.”
Theo paused, letting the moment sink in before he said the words out loud. “You’ve never been kissed either, have you?”
Now I was truly embarrassed. An adult omega who had never dated, had sex, or even kissed anyone before. I averted my eyes, not wanting to look at Theo as I admitted the truth.
“No,” I mumbled.
“Oh,” Theo said simply. “What if I show you how?”
“How? There’s no mannequins here. There’s one in the clinic, if you really need one.”
“What?” Theo laughed. “No, I don’t need one of those.”
I blinked in confusion. “But you need to demonstrate on something.”
“Wow, for someone so smart, you really are clueless sometimes.” Theo grinned. “I meant I can show you. As in, like this.”
Theo shut his eyes and leaned in. I froze like a deer in headlights, paralyzed. Time seemed to slow as he got closer and closer, his lips closing the gap between us until he was barely a hair’s width away.
He’s going to kiss me,I thought, my heart pounding. He’s really going to kiss me!
My body prickled with electricity. I felt every cell in my body, every nerve, pulsing with excitement. My breath caught in my throat, like my lungs were afraid to breathe and ruin this moment.
How did this go in the movies? I knew I was supposed to close my eyes, so I did.
And I waited for Theo’s cool lips to touch mine.
Except it didn’t happen.
This is taking a long time,I thought. But what do I know? I’ve never done this before. I trust Theo.
“Like that,” Theo said.
I didn’t feel his breath across my face, which I should have felt if he was still as close as he’d been before. Confused, I opened my eyes. With a great deal of disappointment, I saw Theo sitting a full foot away now. He was still smiling like nothing had happened.
“Huh?” I said, too incoherent to form a real question.
