“Yes, I want to spend Valentine’s Day with you,” he said.
There was a strange quality to his voice, almost similar to the way Rafael had spoken to me earlier, but I was too excited to dwell on it.
“Great,” I replied. “Where should we meet?”
A beat passed before Jake said, “At your place?”
“Sure. I’ll text you my address. I’ll see you soon, then. Call me if anything comes up with Lilith. I still have a bag of food to drop off, so I’ll probably see you before Saturday.”
“Okay,” Jake replied, sounding a bit distracted. “Bye, Griffin.”
After hanging up, I returned to Rafael to pay my bill.
“So?” Rafael asked.
“He said yes,” I told him with a smile. “We’re spending Valentine’s together.”
Rafael raised a brow. “Are yousureyou two aren’t dating? Because it really seems like - ”
“No,” I said firmly. “We’re not.”
With a shrug, Rafael let the subject drop. “Fine.” He jabbed a finger into my arm. “But since you’re abandoning me, you have to come with me to the café sometime this week to ask Sammy out. Okay?”
“Deal.”
We shook on it.
