The guard holding my wrist yanked me forward and grunted as he pushed thedooropen.

Inside, my heart skipped a beat from fear. Pure terrorgrippedme.

Gunner was sitting right across the room. His eyespiercedmine.

I didn’t know if it was a good thing or not that he didn’t look happy toseeme.

When Gunner spoke, a chill ran down myspine.

“So. Hector finally returns to us,” he saidslowly.

I said nothing and only stared back. I felt small under his scrutinizing gaze. It was then that I noticed he wasn’t alone. With a choked gasp, I realized who was sitting in the far corner with his handsbound.

“Colin!?” I said before I could stopmyself.

With his head hung low, Colin glanced at me with an expression that made it clear I shouldn’t be speaking to him. Gunner instantly shot a sharp glare at both of us and growled deep in histhroat.

“Quiet,” he snapped at me. “It looks like you haven’t learned any manners while in exile, traitor.”

I shut my mouth. Silently I wondered what the hell Colin was doing here and why he looked so depressed. Had he been here the entire time he wasmissing?

But then I remembered that Gunner mysteriously learned of our plans to attack. If Colin was here, that put him in a very incriminatingposition.

It was too late to think about any of that now. I had bigger problems todealwith.

“Tell me why you decided to waltz in here like you own the place,” Gunnergrowled.

There was somethingoffabout the way he spoke. Now that I thought about it, his posture was tense and he was gripping the arm of his seat tightly, too. If I didn’t know any better I would have thought he lookednervous.

But why? I was just an omega. Surely he wasn’t frightenedofme?

Maybe the looming threat of outside attack was freaking him out. Apparently, he knew an attack was supposed to happen tonight - that was why he’d hidden himself away and holed up like this, and even deployed all his soldiersoutside.

But obviously, an attack wasn’t happening. I was the only one here, save for Colin, who didn’t look like he was about to get up and start taking swings at Gunner anytime soon. He looked even more anxious than Gunner. The way he hung his head and refused to look at me seemed almostashamed.

What wasgoingon?

“Answer my question!” Gunnersnapped.

I stood a little straighter. The guard still had his terse hand around my wrist. I guess I didn’t have a choice but toreply.

“I was looking for you,” I said. I didn’t know what else to say: ‘I came here because I was acting like a fucking moron’? It was the truth, at least. Now I just had to figure out how to twist it to my advantage. If that was evenpossible.

His brows raised at that. “Oh, really? And whywasthat?”

My lips tightened. “I can’tanswer.”

That made him frown deeply. He leaned forward in his seat, his icy gaze never leaving me. “Give me one good reason I shouldn’t kill yourightnow.”

I suddenly rememberedwhyI made this idiotic journey into town in the first place. I pushed my shoulders back slightly and tried to speak without my voice shaking. “Because I’mpregnant.”

Brief surprise crossed Gunner’s expression. He considered this for a moment, then looked even angrier thanbefore.

“So it’s true,” he spat. “Youarean omega. Youdeceivedme.”

Great. One more reason for him to hate my guts and want me dead. Good job, Hector. Keepitup!

“I am,” I replied, my voice crackingabit.
