Stupid. I was so stupid. Why did I come here? What the hell was I trying to prove? I wasn’t some big strong alpha warrior - I was just a stupid omega with a knack for getting into trouble. It wasn’t like I was Gunner’s most-hated-insect-he-would-like-to-crush or anything. It wasn’t like I walked into a pack of shifters who wanted me dead and - oh yeah - to top it off, I wasn’t just bringingmyselfinto danger. I was bringing mybabyintodanger.
I was a fuckingidiot.
I walked slowly, then faster. I didn’t want to draw more attention to myself by shifting and full-tilt bolting outofhere.
But it didn’t matteranyway.
“Stop rightthere.”
The cold, loud words made me freeze. I didn’t know where they came from. I was too scared tocheck.
“Don’tmove.”
Ididn’t.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw motion. A large, pissed-off looking alpha comingtowardsme.
The adrenaline kicked in and I bolted. I ran as fast as I could. They already found me. There was no use in standing still and making myself small now. I had to escape. For my baby, Ineededtoescape.
The voice turned into a wolf’s snarl, and then turned into multiple wolves. They were on me in an instant. I heard their paws pounding the concrete behind me, catching up fast. Before my body could even panic and shift into my own wolf form, they leapt and pounced on me. I was trapped underneath a huge grey wolf. Claws dug into my skin. I was breathing so hard I couldn'tspeak.
I gasped as the wolf pressed a paw to my chest, forcing the air from mylungs.
“You. You’re the deserter. The traitor,” he growled. “What are you doing here? Turningyourselfin?”
My heart was lodged in my throat and beating a mile a minute. I was at a loss for words. What could I say to him that wouldn’t end in mysuffering?
“Answer me now!” hesnapped.
“I’m here to see Gunner,” Ichokedout.
The wolf narrowed his eyes, then removed his paw. I gasped as the air rushed back to my chest. I thought my ribs were going to break from the force of his paw and how hard my heart wasbeating.
I scrambled to my feet, but it was clear I wasn’t going anywhere. I was surrounded by five huge wolves, all staring at me with smug satisfaction. And why wouldn’t they be smug? The traitor that Gunner wanted dead just strolled right up to them and handed himself over on a silverplatter.
You fucking idiot,I thought angrily tomyself.
How could I have been sostupid?
The wolf who pinned me down transformed back and grabbed my wrist firmly so that I wouldn’t make another break for it. His hand was cruel and rough, and I winced awayfromit.
I didn’t want to ask where they were taking me. I almost didn’t want to know. I shut my eyes miserably, wanting to get away from allofthis.
I wanted to be withVirgil.
Please, please come for meagain…
They trudged on in silence, leading me somewhere I didn’t recognize. When we finally arrived at a non-descript grey concrete building, my stomach lurched. I didnotwant to be thrown into a stone box. My muscles tensed, wanting to flee again, but I knew it was useless. If I tried to run again I would probably bekilled.
Better to lay lowandlive.
But that wasn’t the only thing making me nervous. All around the building were wolves with burning yellow eyes. All staringatme.
Allalphas.
Gunner’salphaarmy.
There was no way I was making it out of herealive.
