Another silence hung heavy in the air. Even the steam from the tea seemed to have stop swirling.
“What am I supposed to do?” Kyle finally asked.
His question snapped Scout back to his senses. “Alright. First we need to take you to the doctor and make sure you’re actually pregnant and we’re not just freaking out over nothing. Dr. Morris is in the manor, I can go grab him right away and tell him it’s urgent.”
“Right now?” Kyle asked, his heart racing. “But that’s - this is happening way too fast.”
Scout shot him a grim smile. “It tends to be like that.” He walked over and put a firm hand on his friend’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. I’m here for you - we all are. We’re gonna help you get through this, no matter what happens.”
His words eased Kyle’s anxiety a bit, but there was still one big nagging problem: Stark.
Scout seemed to read his mind. “I know you’re worried about Stark. We’re gonna get him involved in this too.”
That sent another jolt of panic through Kyle. “You can’t,” he cried. “He - he’s already not responding to my messages. I don’t want to push him away even more.”
Scout frowned. “Kyle, I know you’re scared, but Stark has to know. He has just a big a part in this as you do.”
“He can’t!” Kyle said. “Please, don’t tell him, he already hates me!”
A cold chill gripped Kyle as soon as he said the words out loud. Instantly Scout’s face melted into one of sadness.
“Oh, Kyle,” he said softly. “Stark doesn’t hate you. Why would you even think that?’
Kyle couldn’t respond. He averted his eyes.
“I promise Stark does not hate you,” Scout said again. “He’s not that type of guy. If anything, he’s probably scared, just like you.”
Scared.Kyle hadn’t even thought of that. He never imagined Stark - a big strong alpha, the captain of the royal guard - as someone to get scared.
Kyle let out a heavy sigh. “Okay. I… let’s talk to him.”
“Good,” Scout said, smiling. “But first thing’s first. Let’s get you tested and make sure we’re not losing our minds over nothing, okay?”
Every feeling of jealousy towards his friend had vanished. Kyle smiled back at Scout with pure gratitude. He was lucky to have someone so kind as his friend. “Okay.”
