Kyle paused, unsure of how to proceed. He leaned over to the coffee table and fidgeted with the handle of his teacup. Sensing his hesitation, Scout spoke.
“I’m guessing the part with the alcohol came next,” he said.
“Yeah. I was ” Kyle said, then blinked. “Wait, how did you know I drank?”
Scout laughed. “Are you kidding me? You only went to the bar about four separate times, and that was only the times I counted. I kept an eye on everyone to make sure they don’t overdo it, but I knew you were feeling weird in the first place, so I was watching you.”
“Oh.” Kyle’s face was hot with embarrassment. “Sorry you had to see that.”
Judging by the amused look on Scout’s face, he wasn’t sorry at all.
“I honestly don’t really remember what happened after that,” Kyle explained. He was dreading telling the next part of what happened. “The last thing I remember clearly was, um… Waking up.”
“Right,” Scout said. “Honestly, I’m glad you woke up in the manor. I would have been really scared if you got drunk and woke up somewhere strange.” He furrowed his brow. “Promise me you won’t go getting crazy drunk anymore.”
Kyle groaned. “I won’t, I promise. The hangover was absolutely not worth it.”
“Good,” Scout said with a sigh. “Now the hard part. I can tell by the look on your face you really don’t want to tell me what happened next.”
Kyle grimaced. “Honestly, it’s not that, its just… it’s hard to believe. And really fucked up and weird.”
“I’m listening,” Scout said. “It’s probably not as fucked up as you think.”
“It was Stark,” Kyle said bluntly.
A blank look of confusion crossed Scout’s face. “Wait, what?”
“I woke up in bed, naked, and the person next to me was Stark,” Kyle said again.
Scout was stammering now. “But - there was no one else there!”
“He must have left before I woke up,” Kyle said, lowering his gaze. “The space on the bed next to me was messy, and I - I double checked the scent. It was definitely Stark.”
Scout’s mouth hung open in shock. “Oh. Wow.”
“Yeah,” Kyle said simply.
They stared at the coffee table in silence for a minute. Then a thought struck Scout so hard he gasped.
“Kyle,” he cried, “Have you gotten tested yet?
Kyle was too lost in his fog of memories to understand what Scout meant. “Tested for what?”
Scout leapt to his feet in a hurry with a panicked expression. Kyle glanced up, his eyes wide with confusion. What was Scout so upset about?
“Kyle,” Scout said slowly. “You might be pregnant.”
The words didn’t register in Kyle’s mind right away. He stared ahead, not really hearing what his friend said until a few moments later. Then his world came crashing down all around him.
“What!?” he yelled.
“You had unprotected sex with an alpha,” Scout cried. “Kyle, there is a very real possibility you could be pregnant right now.”
This was the second time Scout had said the words but they still didn’t feel real. His mind was lost in a daze of shock and confusion. This couldn’t be real. This couldn’t be happening.
“Kyle?” Scout’s voice cut through the fog.
“Yeah, I’m here,” he said quietly.
