“And miss out on all of your beautiful suffering? I think not.”

It’s then that he lunges for Kas. As they fight it out, it’s clear his aim is to hurt and not kill. Both of them have so much anger towards each other as they fight, and both have a blade in their hand. Neither of them have been cut yet, but there have been some heavy punches in the mix. Kas’ nose is bleeding, and Michael has a black eye. They are both healing at an extreme pace, just to get hurt all over again.

With Michael distracted, I jump on his back and stab him in the shoulder. His elbow hits me so hard in the nose that I’m thrown back at least ten feet. My nose is bleeding, and I wipe it off with my forearm.

His rage is surprisingly focused all on Kas. “You made me like this!” he screams as his wings flair out while he’s on top of her, strangling her. “I didn’t want this.Youdid this.” He screams and cries in her face. He’s so completely unhinged and singularly focused that he doesn’t expect me. I know my blade won’t do much, so I pick somewhere it will really hurt.

I slash against his Achilles tendon as hard as I can. He howls, and his grip loosens just enough for Kas to stab him in the shoulder.

His tendons are an absolute mess from where I cut him. Blood gushes everywhere as he falls to the ground. “Fucking bitches,” he hisses.

Kas is just about to stab him when Michael gives her a bloody smile. “This isn’t over, my dear sister.” He grabs at a necklace that is similar to my own and whispers under his breath. Just as Kas is lowering the blade to end his life, he disappears, and all the blade hits is a dead patch of grass.

Kas pants and it’s the first time I see her break. She doesn’t cry, but something akin to it. “He’s never going to stop.”

“So then stop him,” I say to her in a fierce tone.

“You saw him, he’s strong.”

“Kas, we just left him bloody and portalling back to wherever he came from. He might be strong, but he can be wounded; he can be killed.”

She wraps her arms around her knees and rests her head on her legs. “I don’t want to kill him,” she says so softly, like it’s a secret she’s never wanted to say out loud.

“Then we’ll come up with something. Go back to Asmo and your witch; the best way to protect them is to be with them.”

“Is that what you’re doing?” she asks.

“Planning on it,” I tell her. If I’m telling Kas to face her fears and not run or hide, I should be able to tell Lucifer, right? “You should probably head out.”

She wipes a bit of blood off the corner of her mouth. “When the fuck did you get so smart, huh?”

I lean against her, bumping our shoulders together. “I learned from the best.”

“Oh, fuck off, Lilith,” she says jokingly, bumping back into me. “So, you and the big man are happy?"

“We will be,” I promise her.

“That’s good. If I need your help in taking Michael down again?”

“You don’t even have to ask,” I say, tapping her knee. “Now, don’t be a stranger and go get your lovers back.”

“Ew, don’t say lovers.”

“Grow up,” I reply, rolling my eyes.

“I guess if you have, I should too."

“Especially because you’re dealing with two. I can’t imagine.”

“Oh, I certainly have my hands full.” She dusts herself off as she winks at me. “Give ’em hell.”

Oh, I plan too. Today was the last thing I needed to solidify the fact that I need to talk about how I’m feeling with Lucifer. About how I can’t just be somebody’s secret, that for this to work, we need to be true partners. While I’ll never delude myself into thinking I’m anywhere near as physically powerful or as gifted as Lucifer, I know now that I can handle myself. I also know that I have friends and people who love me, who have my back unconditionally. If it’s enough for me, it should surely be enough for him.

I sigh as I wrap my hand around the necklace and call his name. The fury written on his face when he lands right in front of me is palpable.

He rubs some blood off of my face and frowns at me. “What happened?”

“Kas and I got into it with Michael.”
