“That’s not true.”

“Elvor is a man of few words, none of them have ever been lies,” I comment, backing my partner up, and Lilith looks at me with pink cheeks. I stand, adjusting my jacket, placing my hand on the back of Lilith’s chair. “I assume you have this covered, darling?”

“I do,” Lilith confirms, nodding.

“Good girl,” I say, leaning forward and kissing the top of her head. Her cheeks are flaming red, and when I look over at Ponds, his mouth is gaping wide open. “Fuck,” I groan.

I snap my fingers, ripping Pond’s soul from his corporeal body. The shadowy dark soul whines as his body crumples to the floor. I open my palm, the soul reluctantly wisping into my hand before I place it in my mouth and swallow it whole.

Lilith blinks at me as his soul sinks to my stomach.

“Did… did you just consume his soul.”

“I did. Disgusting little soul.”

“You killed him because he saw us together?” I nod and sigh, bending so my face is in front of hers.

“Ponds couldn’t be trusted.”

She nods, and I can’t tell if she’s disgruntled or turned on.

“Well, at least he won’t bother Elvor anymore.” I roll my eyes at the affection my mate has towards the fae demon.

I smile at her regardless, and I lean forward, my lips nearly a breath away from hers, when Toth storms in. It’s unlike him to not knock.

“We need to go to the pit, now,” he says. No formal greeting, no asking, just telling me.

“Stay here. I’ll be right back.” Lilith frowns at me and crosses her arms. But Toth and I portal together to the pit. When I see who the poor soul is on the floor, I can’t help the feral smile that takes over my face.

He whimpers in a corner, no longer fully whole.

“Beelzebub, don’t worry, lad. I’ll make you whole again,” I coax in a soft tone. The soul unfolds, and I hold back my true intentions. Having consumed Ponds not that long ago, it’s easy to just use a drip of my own blood to give him his body back. Since Beelzebub is such a simple-looking demon, with shit for brains, it doesn’t take much to make him corporeal.

“My lord,” he croaks.

“What happened?”

“Kasdeya and Daxaddon, my lord. They are out of control.”

“Hmm, unacceptable. Toth, why don’t you fetch the demon a chair and a nice glass of water.”

Toth smirks, grabbing the chair next to him, and Beelzebub sits. Toth hands him the water.

I conjure my shadows, locking him to the chair before I’m in his face.

“You’ve betrayed me, Beelzebub. Now… I can make your suffering endless and painful, or I can rid you of pain and suffering if you tell me the truth.”

He sputters, a tear trailing down his face.

“I didn’t want to, my lord. I didn’t want to.”

I grip his throat to the point that his face turns red and swollen. “Didn’t want to dowhat?”

I have to release him for a moment so he can speak. “The angels, they want a new ruler of Hell. They thought she could do it.”

“Whom?” I already know, but I need him to tell me everything. I know he was lying about not wanting to betray me, but his confession about the angels rings true.

“Mara, she’s bloodthirsty and powerful, made from your blood. We thought she could take over.”
