“No, I just want to know what happened and why.” He pauses for a moment before asking, “She’s gone?” I sigh, confirming his question with a nod. He rubs his hand through his hair and sighs as well. “I can maybe poke around and see what I can find out. But no one can know.”
“All I want to know is what my sister was trying to tell me.”
“I’ll need something in return.”
“Anything.”
“There’s an item I’ve been looking for. The diadem of kinship.”
I furrow my brows and shake my head. “I’ve never heard of it.”
“That’s a shame,” he says.
“I’ll find out, I’ll do whatever it takes. I just need to know why Diana came to Hell.”
He arches an eyebrow and nods. “If you help me, I’ll see what I can find out. I liked Diana, it’s a shame,” he says.
“What’s your name?” He smirks and shakes his head.
“My name is Rainn.”
“How will I get in touch with you?”
He smirks and shakes his head tossing me a coin. “Keep it on you, rub it if you need me.” He winks and disappears.
I’m not sure how much trust I can put into an angel, but at this moment he’s the only lead I have. He could have attacked me, or much worse, but he didn’t.
This day couldn’t have gotten weirder. So, I portal back to the house, curl up in bed and go to sleep. Hoping that this is the thing that will help me get out of this pit of grief so I can start living.
Chapter eighteen
“Whereisshe?”
It’s taken every ounce of self-control to not kill Kas, or send her to the pit to be tortured.
“She’s safe, as if you didn’t know,” Kas replies indignantly. Of course, I know, she’s at a beach property that Kas owns—illegally—on Earth.
“She needs to come back to Hell!”
Kas rolls her eyes and stands up. It’s the first time I’ve seen a look of distaste in her eyes.
“How can someone live for so long and be so fucking stupid?” My anger flairs, and in a flash, I’m on my feet towering over her as I look down at her.
“You need to watch your next words.”
“You told her nothing, Lucifer. Not about the dagger or her past life, and you expect what? Complete devotion to you? Then her sister dies, hertwinfucking sister. At the hands of Beelzebub of all fucking demons, and you don’t offer her comfort or understanding. Instead, you decide to save face and send her to the fucking pit in front of everyone.”
I swallow thickly and hearing it said out loud so coldly is worse than when I think about it. I had to act fast; Lilith was about to do something that couldn’t be undone. “Beelzebub is taken care of.”
She glares at me. “Oh, is he?”
“He’s on soul collection duty.”
“Oh, what a great punishment to avenge the woman you ‘supposedly’ love.” The sarcasm is thick in her tone, and I feel like I can’t win, that nothing I do in regards to Lilith is ever right. Why can’t I get anything right lately?
“What am I supposed to do? I have to keep her safe! If the angels know about her, if demons know about her, if they see any favoritism towards her, then she could be taken away again.” Even if Lilith never accepts me, the least I can do is make sure she’s safe. Being tied to me shouldn’t hinder her safety. I want everything for her, even if it isn’t me.
Some of the anger fades from Kas as she looks at me. “Then maybe the best thing you can do is let her be on Earth for now.”
