I nod my head, not wanting her to hit on me again or say some other weird shit. I try on a bunch of different bras and lingerie. Baron keeps handing me different things to try on, and I can’t help but add nearly everything to the keep pile. People who say money can’t bring you happiness have never tried on three hundred dollar bras before. The way the fabrics feel against my skin makes me feel confident.
I’ve never enjoyed shopping this much and I can’t decide if it’s because I’m not spending my own money, or that everything I buy will be removed by Dax’s skilled hands.
Once my pile is sufficiently high, I put back on my outfit and Baron lets me know he will bring everything upfront for me. I think I could get used to this type of shopping.
Kas comes out at the same time, still as immaculately dressed as she was earlier. Baron also brought her selections up to the front.
“Did you get everything you need, little witch?”
I roll my eyes at this forward demon. “My name is Blair. I’m not your little witch.”
“Unfortunately. I’ve been looking for a naughty little witch to play with. Seems I will need to keep looking.”
“Yeah, you do that,” I say, and Kas laughs.
“I’m not sure who is touchier about who, you or Dax.”
I don’t reply to her, and Baron brings up my total. “That will be seven thousand, eight hundred twenty-four dollars and twelve cents.”
I give him a smile and hand over Dax’s shiny gold card. Kas smiles next to me in approval.
Kas pays for her things, paying nearly double what I did. We both take our shopping bags out the front door. Dax’s motorcycle is there, but he isn’t, so I text him I’m ready to go.
“Dax should be here any minute,” I say to Kas.
“I’ll just wait until he gets back.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“Yes, I do. Demons might have the reputation of being cutthroat and unfeeling, but that’s not the case. You’re important to Dax, so you’re important to me and Asmo. I’m happy for you both, I really am. But I need you to know that there can be no fuck-ups at Inferno. We need to make sure this job is done right.”
I appreciate Kas’ work ethic almost as much as I appreciate her wardrobe. “Trust me, I want this bitch caught just as much as you do. Anything I can do to help, I’m in.”
Kas grins at me. “Such a shame.” She shakes her head as muscular arms wrap around my waist.
“Ready to go, babe?” his gravelly voice asks.
“Yeah,” I say, as I’m spinning around in his arms, Kas portals to wherever the Hell she lives.
“She wasn’t too difficult, was she?”
“No, I think I actually might like her.” I make a fake gagging sound as I dig into my wallet and hand Dax back his credit card.
“Did you get lots of pretty things?” he asks with a mischievous smile.
“I did, thank you, daddy,” he beams and kisses me roughly. The stubble of his beard against my cheeks makes me smile into the kiss. He breaks away and the way he looks at me,fuck. It’s like all my problems don’t exist when I’m with Dax. “You’ll have to wait to see, though.”
“I can be patient, pet. Can you?” He asks seductively as he places the helmet on my head and takes my bags to put them in his side saddles.
He puts his own helmet on, getting on his bike first before he gives me a hand signal to jump on the back.
I know I should be stressed. So much is going on that’s out of my control. But all I can do is bask in the feel of wrapping my arms around his sculpted abs and breathing in his musky scent. I think Dax just might help me make everything all right.
Chapter 18
“Thisisaterribleidea, Blair,” Stevie says to me as I work on getting ready for the night. Dax is going to be picking me up in an hour to go to Inferno.
“He asked me to come. Clearly, this Mara demon is a threat to me. The sooner she’s gone, the sooner everything can go back to normal.”
