“The story is that I bonded with my bodyguard. Who is still my bodyguard, by the way. He acted in defense of his Omega and if anyone has a problem with what he’s done, they can go fuck themselves.”
“Commercial break!” is shouted from the back of the studio. “We’re live, you can’t curse,” they say to Cami.
“I’m sorry,” Cami tells the cameraman.
“We’re back on in two minutes.”
“I think this interview is done, anyway,” Margo seethes.
Cami gets out of her seat, proud of what she’s accomplished. A few months ago I had to stop her interview because of this viper of a woman, and now the tables have turned. She was able to get her truth out into the world and put Margo in her place. “That’s fine, Margo. But I suggest you refrain from painting me and my bonded in a negative light on your show again.”
“Is that a threat?”
“No, that’s a promise,” she says as she walks away and puts my hand in hers.
“That was the hottest fucking thing I’ve ever seen,” I say. Watching her command that room and take charge of the interview. She’s always been a strong woman, but she’s no longer putting other people’s feelings above her own. She certainly isn’t going to let the media paint our relationship in a negative light either. It gets me hot knowing she wants to protect me as much as I want to protect her.
“It felt so good. I’m on like a high right now,” she says with a grin.
“Standing up for your Alpha gets you all hot and bothered?”
Cami leans her shoulder against mine and sighs. “I’ve never liked what the media has said about me, but them lying about you was really something I couldn’t tolerate.”
I bend down and kiss the side of her face. “I have a surprise for you,” I tell her.
“Oh, is it candy?”
“No, but we can get some afterward. Let’s go.” We hold hands as we get to the car. Her new driver has gone through the ringer with Dom and me, making sure that he is trustworthy and a safe driver.
“Where are we going?” she asks.
“It’s a surprise.”
“Is it Rita’s Rodeo?” she jokes.
“No, and we’re never going back there.”
“Aw, come on, we had a good time.”
“You had a good time. I had to restrain myself from beating up that cowboy and trying to keep my hands off you at the same time.”
“Well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore,” she says, leaning her frame completely against mine. Our interlaced hands sitting delicately on her thigh.
She’s relaxed against me while I’m freaking the fuck out. I know the answer already, but I just hope that everything goes smoothly.
Her new driver, Joel, parks outside the American Museum of Natural History, and I get out of the car first and take her hand.
“Why are we at a museum?” she asks.
“Liv is doing a dog rescue event here today. She wanted us to come,” I lie. Why didn’t I think of a better excuse before we got here? I scratch my beard and shut the car door behind us as we make our way through the lobby.
“In a museum?”
“Uh, yeah. We need to go to the Rose Center for Space and Earth.” I couldn’t have just come up with a simpler way to do this? I’m sweating and she’s looking at me like I’m stupid.
She follows me patiently as we make our way through the museum. “Looks like they are running late. We can wait in here for a minute,” I say, dragging her into the planetarium.
It’s so dark in the room that I’m able to take the ring out of my pocket and hold it in my right hand, as she continues holding my left. I don’t think I’ve ever been this nervous. When we bonded it was so sudden and fast, I didn’t have time to stress about it. I’ve been trying to think of how to propose to Cami and this is what I came up with. I even texted Liv to see if it was a good idea, and she sent me a series of freaking out emojis, which I took as a yes.
