Today was epic. The person Scarlett is today is the person I knew she could be. She is radiant, a spitfire, a ball of pure fucking energy, one touch, electric. This morning started with me kissing her on the side of our house, tucked behind the bushes. Her kiss left me craving more of her –her touch, her taste. Fuck, she tasted so good, I wanted to savor it.

Baseball practice was tiring. We went through drills for Friday night's game. We’re due to play the Cats from South HighSchool. The night consisted of running drills, batting practice, and field drills. Overall, we are doing quite well. Levi and the coach offer the field outside of regular training for newbies or those trying to hone a particular skill. I attend the ones I need to, the team training sessions, and position-specific practice when they come around, but that's where my commitment ends, because right now my mind is preoccupied with something else, or someone else.

Crawling up the trellis, I jump when I see Scarlett already sitting on the roof, her legs pulled up to her chest, as she sits near the window. “Shit, you scared me.” She laughs as I crawl next to her. “Hey, you.” I kiss her cheek, unsure if this is what I should do, but fuck, it feels right. The doubts go as fast as they came as she leans into my lips, pushing her cheek against them.

“How was practice?” I know she won’t understand anything I’m talking about if I dive into the specifics, so I tell her the basics.

“Are you going to come to the game on Friday?” My shoulder grazes her and sends a thrill of desire through my body.

“Of course.” She cheeses. I lean in and take her lips with mine, my tongue opens her lips, tasting her sweetness. Our tongues dance in the open space, both eager for more of each other's taste, my own, desperate for more of the sweet moans that escape as her hands wrap about my neck, pulling me in for more. My hands slide up to her face, meshing her into me, begging for more. What am I doing?Pulling away slowly, she smiles and looks up at the sky before she lies down on the roof. I scoot to lie beside her. Her long hair flowed beside her, wrapping her perfect body.

“What are we doing?” I turn onto my side so I'm facing her. She mirrors my movement, and I stare into her eyes as the stars twinkle off them.

“Honestly, I don’t know. What do you want us to be doing?”I’m torn between knowing this is wrong but wanting it so fucking bad.She rolls onto her back slowly and stares up into the night.

“I don’t know, but I want to be honest, because I’m tired of… I don’t want you to break my heart, and I’m afraid of what will happen when Levi finds out.” I’d thought about that too, how wrong this is; it feels like I'm betraying one of my best friends for the other. It feels like no matter what I do, someone is going to get hurt, and hurting either of them is the last thing I want to do.

I scoot closer to her, placing the front of my body onto her side, bringing my hand to her face, and turning her head so her eyes look into mine. “Breaking your heart will never be something I do. As for what we are doing, I don’t know, but I like it, and I worry about that too. I don’t want to hurt him, and I don’t want him to hate me.” It’s as if I’m at war with myself, battling on one side for what I so desperately want, and the other fighting for what I should do. I shouldn't want her, but I can’t help the pull I feel between us.

She lifts her head and steals a kiss. She slowly leans over onto her side, keeping her body flush with mine, stealing my breath, only to kiss me back to life, and if this is how I survive, sign me up. If her kiss alone makes me feel this much pleasure, what will her…stop, brain, we cannot think about it, it's too late. Her kiss deepens, lapping my tongue with hers, and a moan falls from her mouth straight into mine, sending me over the edge. Throwing her leg over me, I pull her close, holding her into me, my hands wrapped around her plump ass. I know she can feel my want for her as my erection pushes into her with each kiss. “Scar, baby, we have to stop.” I pull away, talking into her wet lips. “I want you so fucking bad, and if you keep kissing me, I’ll take you righthere on this rooftop, and that is not how I want our first time to be.” She laughs at me, pulling away and moving her leg off of me.

“Right, I guess I would prefer not to have my virginity taken on a rooftop. Now, under the stars, I could be okay with that.” She rolls back over and looks up at the stairs.Fuuuck, I can’t think about being the only guy to ever be inside her. Molding to my cock and mine only.

“I don’t want to ruin this moment, but have you hurt yourself since?” She turns her head, looking over at me, and offers me a sympathetic smile.

“Are you still kissing me?” She places her hand on my face. “No, I haven't, I promise if it crosses my mind, you’ll be the first to know.” She kisses my cheek and sits up, looking at her phone that just lit up. “Levi said, he’s on his way home.” I sit up, knowing that's my cue to leave.

I give her one more long-lasting kiss before standing up. “See you tomorrow.” She nods and watches as I make my way back down the trellis.

Lying in bed, I think about the way her body felt pushed up against mine, and how much I craved her. I have had my fair share of blow jobs, but I have never wanted to be inside someone so bad. To become one with them in every sense of the word. She is intoxicating. I want to lavish her with love and show her the power she holds. Tomorrow we’re heading to the D&D, for whatever reason, and I’m itching to get alone time with her.

Chapter 18

Lies & Cookies

Spencer

The day flew by. The baseball team was at the gym getting ready for practice, but before I headed there, I promised Scarlett I’d take her downtown to the D&D. Scarlett hopped in my truck after school, where Levi thought I was taking her straight home.

I smile over at her, looking at her riding shotgun in my truck could possibly give me a boner–actually, no, her driving mytruck would most definitely make me hard. “To the D&D.” I pull out of the school lot and head downtown.

Pulling up along the side of the road, we look at all the buildings until she points, excitement filling her face. "D&D, Defender and Defense," she says. The sign hangs crookedly off the broken roof. This is where she wanted to go? What the hell. She turns towards me. “Thanks, I’m just going to run and get signed up, then I’ll be back out.” She smiles big and goes to open the door, and I lock it.

Turning her head back to me, she scoffs, and I shake my head. “Tell me why you want to learn self-defense.” Her face fell, and she scooted back into her seat, laying her head down on the headrest.

She takes a deep breath. “I… I just want to get stronger and be able to protect myself, that’s all. I thought it would be a good outlet, since I’m not, ya know.” I grab her hand gently.

“How about this, I take you to the gym before school some days, get you working on these little arms, and I’ll teach you some stuff. I can’t let you go into this sketchy place looking like you do. If you walk in there, you are paving my way to a jail cell real quick; no one is putting their hands on you, anywhere.” I smile widely and kiss her cheek.

“You sound like Levi, but fine. I’ll agree to that.” Placing my truck in the drive, we head to her house so I can drop her off.

Arriving at her house, Grant is standing outside on the phone. I notice how her posture changes, and her breath hitches. Her hands immediately start to shake, and I watch as every muscle tenses. She becomes stiff as a board. “You good?” I ask in a don’t lie to me tone.I know she’s lying; I can see it in her posture and the way her body reacts, but why is she lying to me? Was the D&D really to protect herself from him?

I park my car and step out, walking around to open her door for her. She steps out and waves me off, expecting me to leave her to walk up to her house alone.Fuck that, I just saw her entire demeanor shift; I am walking her to the door.“Hello, Mr. Allister. Just dropping off Scarlett, Levi is at work late.” He nods his head as he slides his phone into his pocket.
