Glad you made it ;) Good Night, my person.
Chapter 16
Pocket Full of Sunshine
Levi
Last night kicked my ass, practice ran long, then I may have had a quickie with Hannah…I think her name was Hannah– ya, Hannah from the bank.It feels good to release this tension, but I feel like I need more. I know how these women see me, a player. I’ve built that up; I just want someone to see behind the facade, someone to look deeper. I want someone toseeme.
I roll over and see my sister standing in the doorway holding my phone. “Get up, sleepy head, I get to go back to school. So, hurry up... In your famous words, you got minutes and I’m leaving your ass.” Scarlett smiles widely, brighter than I have seen in a long time.
I sit up and smile at her because her smile is contagious, “What crawled up your ass and made you happy?” She turns her head and looks at me with a weary smile.
“For starters, I don’t think that’s how you say that. Because you’d shit your pants if I answered that with ‘a boy’. See how fucked up that sounds.” She dies laughing, meanwhile, I vomit in my mouth thinking about my sister getting a happy ending with a… no, no, hell fucking no.
I shake my head vigorously. “Letty, I love you, but get the fuck out.” She turns, laughing, and heads out, “Eight minutes!” she hollers.
Getting up, I throw on some clean clothes and brush my teeth before heading downstairs to scarf some breakfast. I am just grabbing a Pop-Tart when I hear my car start. Running to the key basket, I search for my keys, gone. My phone alarm goes off, with the alarm name scrolling across the screen.Times up, BYYEE
I fly open the door, running onto the porch to find Spencer sitting on the stairs, laughing hysterically. “Where the fuck did Letty go?”I sound how I feel, absolutely appalled. This only makes Spencer laugh harder. “Come on, man, where did she go? That’s my car!” My voice cracks because, shit, I am stunned she actually took my Audi.
“She’ll be back.” Before I can respond, my car drifts around the corner, and my sister's hair flies out the window.
I shake my head. “I never should have taught her how to drive like that.” She whips into the driveway with a radiant smile on her face. Spencer and I walk over to the car. I try to open the driver-side door, but she locks it, shaking her head. Spencer climbs into the back seat, buckling up instantly.
“I don’t think so, sleepy head, passenger bitch you shall be.” She rolls up her window, laughing like never before.Fuck it, who am I to drain her spirits?I walk around the front of the car, and just as I get to the middle of the vehicle, she honks the horn and makes me jump, for fuck sake.I stop dead in the middle and stare at her through my eyebrows while flipping her off. Rounding the car, I go to pull the door handle, but she locks it, then unlocks it, and then locks it again. Finally, I wait for the perfect moment as she unlocks it, and I rip it open, sliding into the passenger seat.
I look over at her and smile a devious look, and she laughs as she apologizes for the shenanigans she has pulled this morning, but I fucking love it. I love this side of her; the carefree, fuck around and find out version of her is my absolute favorite.
She throws the car in reverse and sends me a wicked smile before pulling out of the driveway. “Letty, easy now. Just drive to school like a normal person, please.” She nods her head.
She smirks and looks at Spencer in the review mirror before hammering the gas. The tires spin and the car takes off. “Letty!” I laugh, hurling over as she zips through the neighborhood.
“I’ll make you a deal, Levi, you play my all-time favorite song, and I'll drive normally. GO!” Flooring it onto the main road, she shifts gears and slides into our turn. Immediately, I get on YouTube, typing in her favorite song, turning up the stereo. She smiles when the music starts, and she lets off the gas, slowing the car down to the speed limit. I look back at Spencer, and heis grinning ear to ear, making me laugh, because he has no idea what is about to happen.
Scarlett grabs her phone while whipping into the school's parking lot, and singing her heart out to “Pocket Full of Sunshine” like we are in the front row of a paid concert. Spencer’s head falls back, and happiness belts from his laugh. This day is fucking perfect. Once Scarlett has finished her car concert, we get out, ready to make this day our bitch.
The workday flies by, and I get a text from Jessica to meet up this weekend; that's an absolute yes. I still fuck around with other girls, but she does know what I like. It’s easy with her. I text her back a simple “for sure.”Can't look too eager, gotta leave them wanting more. Walking to lunch, I see Scarlett standing with a group of girls, smiling widely and laughing as they all stand in a circle. She never used to be popular, never had many friends, and now she is surrounded by everyone. Maybe we have Spencer to thank for that. Speaking of Spencer, I wonder if he knows why my sister is so happy. Not that I’m complaining, because it's incredible, but it's different – in the best possible way.
I walk to his locker, and I find him staring at Letty. “Hey, man.” He pulls his eyes away from her and grabs his books. “You know why my sister is a radiating ball of sunshine?” Spencer laughs and shrugs.
“I have no idea, but I like it.” I shake my head because I do too. “Ready for our first game Friday night?” I look back at Scarlett watching her walk over here.
“Yeah, I can’t wait.” Scarlett comes over and hands me my keys.
“Sorry, boys, I am going to stay back for lunch today. Maddie and Haley want my help with the school newspaper, oh, and you two need to talk about your birthday party!” she hollers as we walk away to her friends.
Spencer and I run through the fast-food burger place and devour our burgers and fries in the school's parking lot. “So, my birthday is at the end of this month, the big twenty-one. What should we do?” I shake the rest of my fries into my mouth.
Spencer takes a drink of his Dr. Pepper. “Let’s have a bonfire in the back woods where I showed you the first day you tried to kill me in your new car.” I chuckle, remembering his face when the car hit ninety.
“Sounds perfect. Will you be at practice today?” He nods, finishing his burger.
“Yeah, but I probably won’t stay late.” I stay late to review plays and help those who need extra assistance or just don’t want to leave.
Time to plan my birthday shindig, fucking right.
