I’m trying not to panic when I feel it.

A sort of breeze behind me.

A draft.

And I realize I’m standing near one of the side exits.

One of the doors that’s supposed to be locked.

Before I can react—the door swings open.

Rough hands grab me.

I gasp, but it’s too late—something drops over my head.

A hood.

Thick.Black.Smothering.

Panic claws up my throat.

I twist.I fight.I try to scream.

But a sharp voice hisses near my ear.

“Don’t.Move.”

The world in darkness.

And that’s when the real fear begins.

Chapter20

Ego

What the fuck is happening?

This shouldn’t be possible.

The fire alarms are blaring, red strobes pulsing overhead like a goddamn war zone, and the lights—gone.

Power’s cut.

Emergency protocols are triggered.Doors automatically unlock.

Shit.

I shove past two teachers trying to herd kids to the cafeteria, already heading for the last place I saw her.

Right by the gym doors.

But Sabrina’s not there.

She’s gone.

“Sabrina!”I bark, loud enough to rattle the exit sign.“SABRINA!”

Nothing.
